    oh

on paper he beats all of them but in all actuality probably slips up somewhere along the lines, maybe early in his career against Vingo, Ross or LaStarza. I also think Walcott would give him hell.

This. Somehow I doubt either Patterson or Johanssen ever stood a chance against Liston. Had he the chance he deserved, he might have ended up surpassing guys like Frazier as an ATG...

nah, I never got the feeling that Liston had that kind of heart. He might have beat Marciano in his prime, but Rocky had a heart. Louis, Holmes, Ali, Frazier, Holy, Lewis...better champions because of their hearts imo. Regardless of records.

I think Liston would have done well...though he would have probably lost a couple on the way. I don't see old man Joe Louis doing too good, for example...but Ezzard Charles was no joke.

He may have picked up a loss along the way and not sure he would beat the Charles in fight 1 or Walcott for the title in fact I don't think he beats them

Yeah, I think Charles might have foiled him. I would have LOVED to see JJW and LL scrap...just not sure if Joe could have taken a flush Liston rap.

Remember Ali had not yet become the finished product.

Early rounds are always key and Walcott would move and counter - Walcott may have handcuffed himself to get ahead in a few close decisions but when the cuffs were off he went for the kill or killed them with technique - his battles with the Great Joe Louis were on the level - showing the greatness of both and his battle with Marciano 1 was on the level showing the greatness of both - Joe took some great shot and landed vs both ATG's his left hook vs Charles was spectacular but Walcott could do much more - he was loaded with talent and power and smarts

Jersey Joe was a great fighter, no question there. I agree with your analysis.

Marciano is on record as saying young Liston had faster feet than Walcott.

I'm surprised people think Charles might pull off the upset. I think Liston stalks him and beats him down.

Yeah, don't see Charles beating Liston at all. Not at all. Just a cruiserweight victim in that fight.

Young Liston uses Vingo as a toothpick, and they probably wouldn't let little Eddie Ross step into the ring with him.

Charles could be a tricky fighter. He would certainly more than belong in the same ring with Liston imo.

Some might argue that Charles also had more heart than Liston.
