How Do You Compare This Heavyweight Era With Others?

Most competitive we've seen in a while. Doesn't mean it's great though, coz its not. Right now there are some physical freaks, but lacking fundamental skill. In terms of greatness, I doubt any of them are on par with Layne, Quarry or Byrd. H2H wise, Fury, Wilder, Joshua and Usyk are all decent.

H2H in comparison to the 80s? Yeah it's probably better. I mean, barring Tyson and Holmes, obviously.
50s? Ehhh it's close. Liston >> all of them. Marciano as well. But the contenders in the 50s were really poor, which brings it back.

 

Better then the 80s and 20s and below. Not sure about anything else. 50s was deep with the likes of Liston Marciano Patterson Walcott Charles Moore Johnson. Machen Folley Ingo

 

It is very difficult. Comparing other weights is easier because the weight in the same. But heavyweight. A heavyweight of 2019 is not a heavyweight of 1979.. That is a different weight.

 

This era we speak of now is not even a full era. Its 2015-2019.

It tells you how good this era is when its comparable of not greater than 10 whole years of the Klitschko era.

Every pundit , trainer and commentator say all the time that the HW division is back. Its definitely the best its been since the 90's imo.

Maybe even the 80s too , cos after Holmes it was really just the Mike Tyson division.

 

Competitive.

No clear standout and every top guy has glaring weaknesses that could see them come undone at any given moment against fellow top guys

How it compares to other eras I'm not sure. Most era's have a standout who eventually seperated themselves from the pack but due to cautious match making that hasn't happened yet in this era.

I do think it's as even and compelling a Heavyweight division as we've seen in a long while.

 

Hard to say. Competitive maybe, but Wilder and Joshua and Fury? They are the top guys now, but how would they compete with Holyfield, Lennox and Tyson?

 

Only knock on this era is no one fights each other...which is sad and makes it differ from other eras.

 

Wilder and Fury are #1 and #2. They fought one and will fight again soon.

Lewis never fought anybody during the 90's when it mattered.

 

Wilder 50-50 against '96 Tyson. Edge to Mike.

Wilder 70-30 against 2002 Tyson.

 

I agree Lewis waited till everyone got old. But Holyfield avoided no one. Klitchkos avoided no one. Tyson didn’t avoid anyone of note. Bowe def did lol. Holmes Ali Frazier Liston Marciano avoided no one. These guys don’t fight each other and it’s hard to tell who’s avoiding who.

 

It is tough to say. Mike took those Ruddock left hooks, but they were not as fast as Wilder's. And that was 1991. I cannot see Wilder take Mike's firepower. So he would have to land one of his left hooks on the inside. Even Tony Tucker landed a left uppercut on Mike in round one in 1987, yet Tony was a big guy. I would go with Mike in the 1980s to stop Wilder early. And Wilder starts to win when Mike in is the mid 1990s.

 

Klitschkos had nobody to avoid yet both of them avoided rematches with Byrd and Sanders.

 

Big difference between '91 Mike and '96 Mike.

'91 Mike stops Wilder mid rounds and prime 80's Mike decimates him Carl Williams style.

 

Best since the 90s and h2h all time I'd rate it at number 3 behind the 70s and 90s
