He's a 40 year old blown up Featherweight who defeated a Welterweight champ in his prime. So..... he does have a case.

Oldest WW champion in the history. Fought a prime/undefeated fighter. Could make a case. But ill give it to canelo for fighter of the year.

Jacobs was drained (though this wasn't Canelo's fault as he simply outgrew the division) and there was a crippling rehydration clause (Canelo's doing).

Kovalev was a fixed fight and Kovalev has come out and said as much.

I don't know man, I would probably give it to Canelo but I won't have problems giving it to Pacquiao either.
Pac-Thurman is also a decent candidate for fight of the year, but then there was Inoue-Donaire so it's really feeling like although Pac gave a great showing this year, he might be just top 2 or 3 of any of these rankings (including the WW rankings).

Yeah but if you think about it, that's the perfect microcosm of professional boxing in 2019.

I feel like Andre Ward is a two sided coin. On one hand I called him the shyt and an ambassador for boxing but I recant that in some ways: he never really shined in the super six, his best fight Chad had already been knocked out in sparring, I'll give him this, krusher was coming off some good momentum the first fight with bruising Hopkins and all but Andre gutted out a classic performance, however in the rematch he stopped the fight at low blows. He even said himself boxing didn't come easy, he wasn't the biggest not the strongest. His non passion/ burnout from boxing was kinda young, like Trinidad young. Imagine him verse Tito for a sec lol. But anyway I heard his shoulder was 30% for most of his career. So yeah he was a sturdy champion, maybe a contemporary great but not an atg.

Can’t argue with that Thurman win. Should have got the nod.
