Having Arguello vs Escalera wichever of their fights in the top 100 fights of all time is absurd whoever made that list should be shot on sight.

yet Arthur Mercante who has reffed tons of big fights calls their first fight the most brutal one he ever reffed...but I guess he was wrong lol

I dont care what Mercante said thats not a top 100 fight of all time but youre the guy that thinks this fight is top five of all time and then says Ward vs Burton and Gatti vs Robinson 1 arent great fights , so you know as much about great fights as mark ant knows how to start great threads.

I think it’s cute that you are stalking me on here and reading my posts. You have me at a disadvantage as I don’t recall interacting with you before (and don’t even know who you are) and based upon your reply I imagine this trend will continue. You don’t like the fight that is cool, you find 2 crude and limited guys in Ward/Burton fascinating and don’t appreciate the top notch talent of Arguello vs Escalera? Equally cool by me...don’t really care. You seem to have some anger issues or a problem with me? Equally cool by me, dont really care!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming

    Yoko Gushiken vs Aniceto Vargas

I don’t know anything about Aniceto, but my first impression is his hair is just as cool as Yoko’s. This is a fight of 2 parts, for 8 1/2 rounds it is a very slow paced strategic and tactical matchup. Yoko is very patient and builds a lead in some action less rounds based upon just being busier. Not sure if Yoko was not himself, or if the movement and lack of countering opportunities (due to aniceto not throwing much) caused him difficulty in finding openings to attack...after 8 1/2 it evolves into a one sided beat down where Yoko’s accuracy and precision punching turned Aniceto into a human punching bag. Aniceto shows some heart as he takes 3 standing 8 counts and the ref could have ruled at least 3 more between 10-13.....I give him props for not going down and don’t know how he survived 10 or 12. I don’t like premature stoppages but man the ref could have stopped this in 11-12 and especially 13. In 14 Aniceto stands but does not leave his corner, Yoko bombs away and it is all over seconds into the round as Aniceto finally succumbed to the assault and crumpled to the canvas.

Not a great fight and not worth checking out unless you are going through some Yoko evaluation. Yoko’s foot work and placement are brilliant even early on, he has no wasted movement but his body punching is largely absent until 13.

    1 Even
    2-4 Yoko
    5 Aniceto
6-13 Yoko with 11 a 10-7 rd and 13 a 10-8...(10/12 are one sided enough to warrant 10-8 scores even though I did not)

    129-116 Yoko at TOS

    Cornelius Boza-Edwards vs Rafael Limon

Ahhhh, back when men were men and big fights were on free tv!

a tale of 2 fights, where IMO Boza with his technical/fundamental advantages builds an early lead ...his jab is hugely underrated and under discussed! Many of the rounds are close with the judges scoring all for Boza 146-139 146-140 and 143-141...all very valid with a 2-8 pt window for Boza based on close swing rounds.

the 2nd half of the fight is hotly contested and plenty of bombs, back and forth momentum shifts and ebbs and flows. I almost thought Bazooka might pull this out down the stretch, but Boza was on target in the final round to seal the deal!
Not a great fight, but a very good one well worth the watch or rewatch!

    1-2 Boza (Boza 20-18)
    3 EVEN
    4-6 Boza (Boza 60-54) w/5 a 10-8 rd
    7 EVEN
    8-9 Limon (Boza 88-84)
    10-12 Boza (118-111)
13 Limon 9-9 (deduction low blow)
    14 Limon (Boza 136-130)
    15 Boza
    Boza 146-139

worth the time to watch this one!

Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe Walcott 1

Thought "hey, why not?" after Rummy's video. After all, who doesn't love Rocky?

    Rnd. RM : JJW (Total)
    1. 8 : 10 (8-10)
    2. 10 : 9 (18-19)
    3. 9 : 10 (27-29)
    4. 10 : 9 (37-38)
    5. 10 : 10 (47-48)*
    6. 10 : 9 (57-57)
    7. 9 : 10 (66-67)
    8. 9 : 10 (75-77)
    9. 9 : 10 (84-87)
    10. 10 : 9 (94-96)
    11. 10 : 9 (104-105)
    12. 9 : 10 (

    )

Marciano wins by 13th round KO.
    (5)* No footage. Gave even.

Tbh, I'll never understand why this is labelled a great fight. Imo, it's a relatively low skilled brawl with lots of holding and lulls in the action. It has an ok punch count, good by HW standards.
Anyways, its alright. Not much more.

    Terence Crawford vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa

Thanks @mark ant for reminding me of this one...

Gamboa starts strong and his speed sees him edge the round where Crawford seems to not have the timing or range figured out. In 2 it was very close and even might be fair but I felt Crawford executes better and nipped it. 3 Gamboa back with speedy combinations takes another one. 4 another close round but I gave it to Crawford and feel like he is imposing his will and shifting to being in control of the fight. Commentary has it 4-0 Gamboa I got it 2-2. From 5-9 it is all Crawford and I don’t think he was hurt in 9 like the broadcast team did....78-72 Crawford on my card (and 2 of the judges the 3rd has it 77-73) at TOS.
    1 Gamboa
    2 Crawford
    3 Gamboa
    4 Crawford
    5 Crawford 10-8
    6 Crawford
    7 Crawford
    8 Crawford 10-8
Crawford drops him twice more in 9 and it’s all over.

Good and fun fight, but not quite great or exciting. A little to one sided to be seen as much else IMO!

Leonard vs Duran I. I've seen this fight before but never scored it.

145 - 141 for Duran, I couldn't believe the commentators had the fight even going into the last round, I had Duran five points ahead!

Duran did more work on the inside and the commentators raved about a lot of combinations that Leonard threw where the punches missed.
The only time I had Leonard ahead was after the first round.

Did you enjoy it? It's one of those fights that people either really like and have it among their all-time favourites or think it's a boring grapple-fest. I'm in the former camp, by the way.

I think it was a very good fight although I wouldn't have it among my all-time favourites.
