One was the HW champion a year prior his accomplishments at HW shouldn’t be questioned. Moore arguably has a better resume at HW then Charles did. Probably the best contender to never win it ag HE based on resume. The 38 year old was the HW champ. Hate to think what u think of AJ with his opponents average age. And like I said statistically speaking wether you like it or not Marciano’s opponents were only slightly below average compared to other great fighters. The stats are there for you to see I’m not making them up. Only knock on Marciano is his short resume. But he also did what he had to against that resume.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Do you believe just as firmly that Floyd Patterson quit against Liston?

Even though a lot of the shots were not clean- I think if the referee did not shot the fight it may have been tragic for Don C. - despite Don's big words afterwards he was getting brutalised and was really nothing more than a bouncing heavy bag - If the referee let it go on he may have gone the way of Vingo or worse.

It took quite a while to crack Dons style. He boxed well in avoiding being overwhelmed by Rocky in the early rounds.

In those last couple of rounds however, once Rocky began teeing off, I actually think Don was knocked senseless. In a total fog.. He just wasn’t going down.

A similar thing happened to some George Foreman opponents. They were getting hit so hard, hard enough to go down, but too dazed to completely short circuit. This is why referees have to save a guy for his own safety. Sometimes they are past knockout punishment yet somehow still upright.

Actually an odd fight to try and bring up to discredit ones power. He knocked him completely senseless it just took a few more rounds then someone else did it in. Arguments like those don’t make any sense and I don’t think posters would actually use thag argument on any other great. Otherwise Tyson Foreman Lewis and Louis etc would be get the same criticism because it’s all happened to them no exceptions.

Precisely. I remember poor Bert Cooper was absolutely hammered by Evander Holyfield. Literally on the brink of being stopped a few times. His head was rattling all over the place. He was out. Nobody is going to tell me had he been iced cold by a single shot Bert would have taken more of a beating, or had somehow been hit that much harder because it only took one punch to do it!

If Bert Cooper was iced with one single shot, All it means is he would have just got caught perfectly in one if the early rounds. He is no more knocked out just because he’s out cold.

Frank Bruno, totally helpless, free shot after free shot, his head yo-yoing From a neck like an over stretched slinky as Tyson and Lewis pounded him was not as knocked out as anyone out cold on the canvas?

I consider AJ an average champ not an ATG and probably never to become one.If He beats Usyk,Pulev and either Fury or Wilder.I will evaluate him accordingly.

It was probably Al Smith. Found an old article in which Smith, who at the time was one of Marciano’s sparring partners for the Walcott fight, says something very similar, and I assume that was the source for that quote.

Source: Herb Ralbey, "Marciano Hits Harder than Louis, Sparmate Says," Boston Globe, Sept. 18, 1952

Neither Cockell,Lastarza,Moore,Layne , Louis, or Charles rated Marciano the biggest puncher they fought. Walcott said he hit harder with one punch than Louis. You pays your money-------

Nope Louis said the hardest he was hit was by Al Delaney . Layne surprisingly said Louis hurt him more in an exhibition than Marciano who ko'd him did. Moore said Durelle hit him harder than Marciano.Moore did say Marciano was far and away the strongest man he fought.Cockell said several men hit him harder than Marciano and he named Valdes ,Barton, and I think Lave.
Lastarza said he was hit harder by other men but not so often.Charles named Marshall and Satterfield.

Lastarza had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbows BEFORE the 2nd Marciano fight He gave an interview to the Ring about it and I have it,no blood vessels damaged ,no clots and nothing to do with Marciano. Why a boxer saying another fighter hit him harder than Marciano should make some posters feel so threatened is a mystery?
Isnt it enough he was an exciting and a great champion?
