Assuming Lopez's body could make it to flyweight how do you see this turning out? 2 of Mexico's greatest tiny men, although one packs a punch while the other was a Mexican Willie Pep. Could El Maestro pose a difficult style for a guy like Finito?

This where El Finito is dealt his first pro loss. Canto was not only a legit fly, he was a world class fly...and clever as hell too. Canto would have been hit...and would have trailed on points through 10, but his well proven, excellent skills, featuring that world class jab, would have prevailed over the last 5 rounds, esp. the championship rounds of 13 thru 15 to earn him the decision.

Lopez was a very tall ( for his weight class ) technical puncher with great patience and timing. Some of Lopez's KO's were amazing. He hit way too hard for a straw weight.

Canto was listed at 5 feet tall and had just a 63" reach.

I think Lopez's power and length, which he knew how to use, would be the difference here.

No point in matching Lopez with ATG flys. He did nothing to warrant a pick in his favour.

Well, they are the two greatest Mexicans below bantam, so the matchup makes sense.

And even if we agree that Lopez loses, there would be some terrific skills displayed in this fight on both sides.

Canto by UD. While great at his own weight class, Lopez did nothing to show that he could beat an ATG in a higher weight class.

I would never pick against Lopez, even at Fly.

At what weight would you start picking against him?

I still think this is a fascinating match up. Ricardo Lopez actually had the height and reach advantage, as well as KO power. Canto has the footwork, elusiveness, and speed advantage. Would have been an excellent chess match between 2 master boxers.

Could be interesting to note that these two are probably similar weights on fight night, same-day/day-before weigh ins and what not.
