Totally agree, Evander was a very good fighter but he's overrated against other great heavyweights.

Do you have an alarm or something that goes off whenever Dempsey's favored in a matchup? Jesus Christ.

I remember the 5'10 James Toney give Evander the worst beating of his life by strictly going to the body ( a Lost art among the Big men) Dempsey went to the body-chest-heart-ribs-very well - 7'ft Valuev 300 lbs and 6'2 1/2 Rahman and 6'2 Ibragimov could not stop Holyfield afterwards because not many Big Guys go to the body

Not to mention any version of Miske isn't a 10th of what Holyfield brought to the table

First off terrific question for being smart enough to mention the pre-PED Evander because you're talking about two all time great cruiserweights ... very evenly matched .. I might give a slight edge to Dempsey because he was far more experienced as a pro at that point with far more fights .. it would have been a war that could have gone either way ..

Pre-Ali of course Liston would be extremely dangerous and Louis , if he fought and did not fall into one of his catatonic spells might be the guy to flatten even Evander .. I feel Johnson would absolutely decision him. Tunney could be very tough as well ..

Let's keep something in mimd about Evander who I love as a warrior and had an all time great chin as well. The man took all kinds of **** and we have no idea what he was at over 200 ..

I remember Vander being 41 years old in that fight.

Should we use a 41 year old Dempsey for proper comparison in this match-up?

Evander was still active had beaten Hashim Rahman the year before 2002 and beat Fres Oquendo 4years later lost to Sultan Ibragimov by decision in 07 and 7ft 300lb Nikolay Valuev by SD (most felt Evander won) in 2008 - he stopped Frans Botha in 2010 and stopped Brian Nielsen in 2011 - he was 34-and 35 when he beat Tyson and 37 when he fought Lennox to a draw and a UD loss so Evander aged well with the help of ( NEW Training enhancements) ) but my point was it took a 5'9 middleweight to stop him because of the lost art of going to the body.

Perhaps if we could have gotten Dempsey the same training enhancements he may have been fighting into his 40's -
My analysis is prime vs prime in a clean fight (no vitamins ) or both men with vitamins both prime- Dempsey by KO in 8

Uh Oldiefiled was like a 100 years old....Poor example

Got clowned by Byrd and Donald,,,he was done beyond done.....Rahman/Botha were cannon fodder even in their primes and Oldiefield needed his head to win.

The older he got it was hit and miss for his PED cycles to peak for a fight. fact.

Peak vs Peak at Cruiser I take Dempsey because of better power, similar speed in a brawl.

Take his two wins against a washed up shell of Tyson away and Holyfields resume at the top level is poor, he lost more than he won.

That's just intellectually dishonest. That an old, tired warhorse was inconsistent and vulnerable is no surprise.

Shall we start breaking down the King Levinksy bouts to find Jack's flaws?

How about the obvious .. as he got older he became more vulnerable to speed .. he lost to Donald, he lost to Byrd, he lost to Toney .. all were fast stylists and he could not deal with the speed and movement .. he was still tough and could handle strength and power .. this is why we see the different results ..

I'm shocked you're picking Dempsey to win.

I still favor Dempsey vs a young Evander but different era's different pluses and minuses - not an easy fight for either man just see the raw firepower, body work and killer instinct working in JD's favor but Evander did beat the Goliath Tyson so while I favor Dempsey I would not be betting heavy but I like his style and power

I think Dempsey would make a good showing regardless of outcome. He would not come to merely lay down.
