How does prime Wladimir Klitschko do today?

I disagree.

 

I'm not sure I agree about the natural killer instinct part. Wilder turns into a different animal once he smells blood, and he's very good at sensing even the slightest weakness and capitalising on it. Wlad, for all his clinical precision, required a fighter to be a lot more hurt before he began to unload on them. Even if a fighter was badly buzzed he'd tend to hang back or tie them up until the referee broke them up again. Wilder on the other hand would just go for it the moment a fighter's legs stiffened or they showed some discomfort, which IMO is very risky but has worked out for him well thus far.

I don't think Wilder is a great finisher, but the unorthodoxy and wildness with which he throws coupled with his explosive power is hard to defend against if you're not at 100%. Wlad's training wouldn't have allowed him to fight in such a manner, and under Steward he found it increasingly harder to throw free-wheeling multi-punch combos because of drilling the perfect one two so obsessively. The few times he tried to open up late in his career he looked really stiff and awkward IMO, a far cry from his youth where he was ripping all sorts of nasty shots into opponents' grills with consummate ease.

yeah as obvious as wilders power is you still have to be mindful that he commits waaay more than any of the other HWs, he almost takes a running jump sometimes.

im sure there are other fighters at HW that could hit that hard if they put as much into it as wilder does.

p.s - that’s not a diss on wilder, it’s clearly working for him.

 

He punches a bit like Huck but with more leverage and a greater use of explosive foot movement. Reminds me a little of a HW Naseem Hamed in how much he sells out on shots actually.

Fair enough, being occasionally wild simply doesn’t really equal being aggressive to me.
Added to that, even defence-in-mind Wlad was actually throwing leather and looking to hurt people where as Wilder seems to coast and wait for a perfect chance. Now pre-KTFO Wlad had a mean character.

Kinda like how Wilder landed numerous shots on Stiverne in their first fight and couldn’t drop or get rid of him??

 

This! When Wladimir really sat on his shots and threw with everything he had he hit harder imo.

 

not to mention his sub par opposition, mind you Wlad hardly fought a murders row but when you put it up against wilders it’s still a few levels above.
