The history of World Heavyweight Boxthing shows clearly that age, weight, shape or glass chin is no barrier to becoming a World Heavyweight Champion.

 

It would be madness to stick him in with any proper seasoned heavy. By seasoned i dont mean completely past it. But frank brings on his own problems with his desperation. Telling people how hes the best thing since sliced bread....how he,d beat them all now....then fighting absolute no hopers.

He really is going down the route of tricking the uneducated. Probably the best route tbh cause thats where the money is. Eddies done the same thing. But franks taking it to new levels. Dubois is a very good prospect but wait till he goes in with guys that know what their doing.

They all look great up to a certain level....frank knows this. Dubois will go further than most but their gonna do the same thing they done with yarde. Avoid anyone threatening....and try pick off an ageing/weak beltholder eventually. Or go for a big money fight before putting him in a real testing fight. Frank will be keeping his ear to the ground for any injured/completely past it or not as good as everyone thinks fighters for him next.

You can tell with his matchmaking so far...its all about tricking the uneducated. Doing the same thing with most of his fighters nowadays....cause a lot of them he gets have probably been bypassed by eddie hearn for not being quite good enough.

Saying all that dubois does look good. Looks an absolute handful with his strength etc. Still think hes being made to look slightly better than he is atm tho. Huey fury would have iced that guy in two rounds no problem last night. The same way he iced sexton in five yet his power barely registered against povetkin. Dubois has a lot heavier hands than fury will ever have but in terms of levels. It does show even light punching guys at european level can be made to look like heavy hitters at the right level. Dont think dubois will have trouble with his power....but other aspects of his game. Hes a bit too straight forward atm. Johnson made him look ineffective at times.

The fringe guys at heavyweight dont always look great but they know what their doing in there. Their better than they look and all of them would look sensational against the guy dubois fought last night.

With regards to Dubois, the Fujimoto fight served a purpose. It’s not all about “learning” and development fights. Sometimes you need a sacrificial lamb to boost the highlight reel and pad the record. It was one of the lead articles on BBC sport, so it’s probably served the purpose of building his profile. The commercial upside is huge of a heavyweight prospect, so that needs to be worked alongside the fighter development.

Obviously he’s due a more meaningful fight next time around; not necessarily a top 10 guy, but a gatekeeper type who knows how to stick around would be nice.

A lot of the development will be going on behind closed doors as well, which the public won’t get to see.

While he isn’t infallible, Warren tends to get this part of the process right. His timing is normally very good in terms of when to take the plunge.

 

Agreed. As far as I’m aware before the current crop we’ve had Lewis, Haye who’s best days were at cruiserweight, Frank Bruno, Akinwande...who else am I forgetting? The point is, we’re going through one of the biggest ‘British’ heavyweight booms ever and through Dubois we could carry that on for a number of years.

 

Just watched the fight again. There’s a lot to admire about Dubois and he’s a top prospect but I think he’s still got a lot to learn. His performance is getting made out to be amazing when in reality it was a poor opponent and I was disappointed with his shot selection if I’m being critical. It’s easy as an internet persona to sit here and say he should have done this and should have done that but if you watch it back and have a look at what he done good and what he done bad it will be the first thing you notice. I’d put him in with most of the top 25 but he’s definitely not ready for the top 3! Power alone isn’t enough, he needs more fights like Lartey or even Kevin Johnson. Lartey asked him a few questions - which were answered emphatically and Johnson left him puzzled wondering how he can get him out of there. These latest opponents who are there for nothing other than to add to a highlight KO reel are pointless.

 

You could throw Hide and Mason in there as well. A striking thing from the glut of world class British heavyweights is how infrequently they have all fought each other. Hide never fought any other top British heavyweight (unless you count Bentt), and neither did Haye.

In theory, it’s all laid out for a great era when you have AJ, Fury, Whyte, Dubois and Joyce all active at the same time. The concern is that they never end up fighting each other. There is nothing like a real rivalry between British fighters with world titles at stake, and it could be a real boom for boxing in this country if we can get them in the same ring together.

Knocked him out in 2 rounds what a pointless fight, if anyone went 12 rounds with KJ 5 years later I’d call that fighter an absolute bum.

He needs a gatekeeper level opponent now, otherwise I'm not interested. Please do not confuse Warren's incompetence with "strategy".

 

I think the fact that AJ was able to stop Kevin Johnson quite comfortably and Dubois struggled with him shows us what level he’s really at.

 

He was unable to get him outta there, I wouldn't say he struggled with him though, that's a bit misleading, Dubois was never in any any trouble and Johnson hardly flung a punch.
