It's not an issue, or at least not anywhere near the degree it is made out to be on this site. The prevalence of so-called "robberies" is so grossly overrated by boxing fans today as to render the term almost meaningless. Every time there is a close fight that could reasonably go either way you can count on all the crusaders on here - particularly if it goes against the underdog- to cry robbery as if some major injustice has been done, when in fact there are a lot of close rounds that rational people simply differ on. It's maddening, and so ridiculously overstated it's not funny. There are actually very few real robberies.
We have governing bodies and so on so we have done everything short of not watching the sport anymore. It is all a business..as long as they make money they are OK with the drama, fighters are products and the return on investment is the bottom line
Who said anything about close fights that could go either way..I am talking about flat out robbed. Because the backers have an agenda! The A-side fighter the promoted marketed fighter wins because the backers are looking at money fights and financial returns down the road etc.
But he was one of the campaigners to vote to BAN the sport to start with Him & a woman MP Summerskill. She maintained boxing was barbaric & MUST be banned two men in a cage trying to beat each other to death. Well she went on vacation to Spain & attended a Bull Fight. Now that is a disgusting sport. Well the matador knew she was there & when he's tortured the bull enough he cut off the bulls ear while it was still alive & presented it to her. She stood there waving it it all bloody big smile on her face. She didnt know a News of the World photographer was there & when that picture was published it shot her down for the hypocrite she was. She dissappeared never heard another peep from her on the matter
Really the only way to get boxing back to being a believable sport is to get rid of the State Commissions. That is where the corruption starts in my book Look at some of the horrendous decisions handed in by Vegas officials 118-110 by Adalaide Byrd The 114-114 draw for Canelo/Floyd & some of the other ludicrous cards by other Vegas judges. The top guys like Bob Bennett of NSAC see these cards but just ignore them. No official has been ordered to explain any of them. As long as they do not vote against the cash cow Like the old proverb goes Money is the Root of All Evil $$$$$$$$$$$$ is all the commissions are interested in these days
The instances where it is clear that the so- called B-side fighter wins but the A-side fighter gets the decision are extremely rare. As I said, the vast majority of cases where people allege "robberies" are close fights with lots of ambiguous rounds that could be scored for either fighter. I've seen it again and again on this site.
The old tradition in boxing was you had to beat the existing champion decisively to gain the championship. In these days of so many weight classes, sanctioning bodies and catch weight fights, it's not so much about champions as it is about money makers i.e. the A side. Nobody wants to upset that financial gravy train. I'd bet most close decisions go to the A side. That's admittedly just a guess.
I should make it clear I'm talking about close fights and not outright robberies which has become an overused term.
Here's the catch though.... that may be applicable to certain fights where every round is close and the end result is three scorecards somewhere in the 115-113 range. But there are certain matches where one fighter clearly wins 7 rounds and the other clearly wins 5 rounds. If the guy loses who won 7 rounds clearly, then that is the very definition of a robbery. And that criteria is not even close to being applicable. Because in no way shape or form did the other guy do enough to win
The problem is in all of us.When someone like Canelo got a win that he didn't deserve, after time noone is talking about it, protesting or something.Nothing.Even hours after "the win" most of his fans are talking "everything is ok".It's the same with all other boxers.
One way is to put more judges, so the cost for buying the win will be bigger(won't work with big stars)
