Sure, Mike looked good in that one. Then again, who didn't look good against Ledoux?

He was one of those opponents for heavies to take on as strictly a stay busy type fight. No real threat of losing to the guy and even showing up with your B game still gets the W.

Y'know, Ledoux was one of those fighters I never liked. He didn't look like a fighter - always a roll around his waist - he didn't have a big punch, he couldn't box and all he seemed to have going for him was a decent jaw and toughness. But in retrospect, I respect the hell out of him today when one looks over his record and you can see he fought everybody. Holmes, Norton, Spinks, Foreman, Weaver, Coetzee, Bruno, Page, Lyle and Bobick. I'll give him his due, there was no such thing as him fighting nobodies like today's heavies, where I look over a record and say, "Who?'

I was at his fight with Foreman when George landed a beautiful left uppercut and put him in a heap on the floor. Just a brutal punch and Scott Ledoux was a guy that never went down in a heap. the sport needs guys like Scott---lately we get the ko victims that just do not seem to hang tough like a Ledoux.

I know, generally today it's a corner retirement where the opponent just quits and then you never hear from him again because he lost his fattened undefeated record and they lose heart. Ledoux hung on and threw a real wrench in the works for Norton, Spinks and Lyle as well as upcoming prospects like Johnny Boudreax, Marty Monroe and Pedro Soto. You're right, we need guys like him.

Evander Holyfield vs. Michael Moorer I

Very disappointing fight that reminds me why I have not rewatched it since fight night. I love Holyfield but even early on when he is doing well? Or at least more he still lacks his normal energy and fire and does not put his punches together...Moorer looks like he can roll to victory as well but he does not fight 3 minutes in most rounds making them closer than he needed to this night. A SD for either guy or a draw is fair, I had a draw on the first fight and have Moorer by 1 but 2-3 made it difficult on me. I scored 2 10-9 Holy rather than 10-8 because I felt Moorer dominated the rest of the round...3 Moorer won 2 minutes and outboxes and outlands Holy, but Holy lands the bigger punches just not enough of them...I had trouble separating and called it even...if I went 10-8 and Holy in 3 I could have Holy winning, if I went Moorer in 3 I could have 2 pts for Moorer. I think the judges did a great job and shows what a tough job they have in close evenly matched fights.

    1 Holyfield
    2 Holyfield 10-9 even w/the KD
    3 Even
    4 Moorer
    5 Moorer
    6 Moorer
    7 Holyfield
    8 Moorer
    9 Holyfield
    10 Holyfield
    11 Moorer
    12 Moorer
Moorer 115-114 in a fight that neither guy won as much as they gave it away.

Philly, I remember that fight. Round after round of Teddy Atlas imploring Moorer to throw punches. It was such an un-Holyfield performance that Atlas recognised it and told Moorer between rounds that "There's something wrong with that guy..." Atlas won that fight for Moorer by cheerleading him and setting a fire under his stool every round. Moorer was lethargic but Holyfield was finished as far as I was concerned. And then it came out there was a heart ailment. There was no way he was going to continue boxing. How wrong I was.

I disliked Moorer even more after this fight. Complete lack of motivation and drive. Total headcase. He should have won far easier than he did.

Moore was an average title holder who won the title against an arguably career worst (up to that point) Holyfield performance and then lost it to a 44 year old Foreman and ushered in several years of heavyweight mediocrity before Holyfield and Lewis righted the ship.

He was incredibly lucky to happen upon that particular version of Holyfield, and STILL almost peed down his leg and lost it. Very hard to root for someone like that. He is immensely forgettable.

    Greg Richardson vs Joichiro Tatsuyoshi

Tatsuyoshi puts on a clinic in just his 8th pro fight winning the title from Richardson.

    1 Tatsuyoshi
    2 Tatsuyoshi
    3 Richardson
    4 Tatsuyoshi
    5 Tatsuyoshi
    6 Tatsuyoshi
    7 Richardson
    8 Tatsuyoshi 10-8??????
    9 Tatsuyoshi
    10 Tatsuyoshi
    Tatsuyoshi 97-91 at TOS

2 of the judges scored 8 10-8 with Dalby Shirley going 10-9 in the 8th...I went 10-8 but think either is ok...not sure I am going back and forth

    Monzon vs Benvenuti 2

Monzon would both rounds clearly imo, I was also tempted to give him the 2nd a 10-8 and ignore the refs call on that KD. I didn't though.

Monzon looked excellent, as you'd expect, excellent range management, pin point shots and counters as well as an underrated defence. His jab really dominated here, made easy pickings of Benvenuti.

    Maurice Blocker vs. Felix Trinidad

In the mood to watch some young Trinidad! The mustache I had completely forgotten about. This was all Tito who rocks Blocker at the end of 1, Tito pressing the action in 2 missed on a few deadly shots and finally drops Blocker face first! Devastating KO!

Myung Woo Yuh vs Joey Olivo

    Yuh (challenger) - Olivo (champion)

    R1: 10 - 9
Classic tall vs short man bout. Yuh just taking it IMO.
    R2: 10 - 9
Hard to score. Olivo throwing more, but Yuh is parrying and landing more effective shots.
    R3: MISSING
    R4: 9 - 10
Olivo moving and working the body. I love the style clash here.
    R5: 10 - 9
Close. Olivo once again cuffing and grazing. Brilliant work from both.
    R6: 9 - 10
Very close. Olivo boxing very well.
    R7: 10 - 9
Yuh parrying and deflecting. Slightly more effective. Close.
    R8: 10 - 9
Again, Yuh more effective despite Olivo's workrate.
    R9: 9 - 10
Olivo working the middle and moving very well.
    R10: MISSING
    R11: 9 - 10
Swing. Olivo taking it for me. High action.
    R12: 10 - 9
Very close. I favoured Yuh's work.
    R13: 10 - 9
Yuh quite effective here. Great parrying and movement. Nasty body work from both.
    R14: ? - ?
Suddenly skips to final minute? Reluctant to score.
    R15: 9 - 10
Nasty finale. These guys don't stop!

    TOTAL: 115 - 113 YUH (MISSING ROUNDS)

    Notes:
    • Awesome, highly skilled clash of styles. Massive shame it's incomplete, as those rounds were very much needed. I can see why officially it was a SD. Yuh was like a damn pitbull here, and Olivo was an awesome taller boxer.
    • I'd reccomend all our resident scorers like @PhillyPhan69 @Jel @rorschach51 @George Crowcroft etc. to watch this one if you have a chance. This is a very high level bout, awesome style clash, and may trouble your scoring skills too!

I recommend it as well...if you can tolerate 7 missing minutes or so!

How ironic was it to find out The King of Heart had a heart condition.
