Sure. Lets take overweight past it TT as a measurement against a 213lb guy he beat in a close meeting. Nothing new at the dumblab studios.
Yeah because Tucker never proved to be beyond USBA title level. Tucker vs Douglas for the USBA title was basically promoted to an IBF vacant title fight when Spinks opted out of the HBO series. Neither Douglas nor Tucker had proven to have been better than anybody currently rated in the Ring magazine top ten at that time...which was a requirement for world title challengers when there was only one world champion. 1 Michael Spinks, Champion Mike Tyson James (Bonecrusher) Smith Pinklon Thomas Tim Witherspoon Tony Tubbs Trevor Berbick James (Buster) Douglas Tony Tucker Frank Bruno Tyrell Biggs As you can see Tucker and Douglas had beaten nobody in the top ten. They fight each other and the winner loses to Tyson who also is not the real champion until Mike beat Spinks. So has Tucker improved from USBA level? No. So what happened to Tucker after this? He won his next 14 fights, 10 by KO. 12 were bums, the other two were Orlin Norris and Oliver McCall. The fights with Norris and McCall could have easily went the other way. Norris did beat Tucker in a rematch. Tucker went the distance vs. Lewis but was dropped twice. What else did he do? Tucker didn't lose much because he didn't fight decent fighters very much. The only time he fought 3 name fighters in a row, he lost 3 fights in a row... LKOby7 Seldon, L10 Akinwande, and L10 Norris. If Tucker had something special he never proved it to me.
I agree with everything in this post however I still think Rocky would have to settle for a decision. For all his shortcomings Tony Tucker was durable and had the tendency to linger in fights where he was outmatched. Mike Tyson was at his pinnacle when a one handed Tucker extended him the distance... Lewis faced a 35 year old Tucker on the comeback trail and again it went to the cards. It’s also prudent to point out that the gap in size between Tucker and Rocky is greater than it was with those other two guys.. Not saying Tony was a great fighter and I certainly DON’T think he’d beat Rocky.. it’s just that some guys are very difficult to stop..
Tucker would comfortably beat Lastarza and Cokkell, I have zero doubt of that.Neither would go 5 rounds with Tyson either.
Maybe he would. But it won’t change the chances Tucker might have against any real Worlds champion. Tucker simply didn’t deliver much. I remain unimpressed.
Yes. Tucker was a world champion. Therefore, better than USBA level. Quite literally end of discussion.
