You proved that Tucker really was universally accepted as the best heavyweight in the World?

    No you didn’t!

The truth is a bout between Douglas and Tucker when it happened can only produce a made up champion. Which it did.

Just because it was labelled by a vacant governing body won’t change the fact that it absolutely cannot produce a winner who is universally regarded as the best heavyweight in the world.

At that Time Spinks was undefeated and Tyson was undefeated. Only a fight between those two could resolve who the best heavyweight in the world was at that time. The winner of that fight can be called a champion.

Stop lying. We both know that's not what I said. Tucker was a work champion. We both know that, therefore, he reached a higher level than USA domestic, meaning he was above it. He would also go the distance with 2 prime ATGs, and beat someone who would be undisputed champ.

    Stop being disingenuous. Stop lying.

Michael spinks abandoned the IBF title when he was offered 250, 000 to defend against Tucker as opposed to 4 million to fight Gerry Cooney PLUS a potential super pay day against Tyson later if he stayed out of the unification process for a bit longer....

*****moves arms up and down Contemplating which was the better option******

The point is he was top ten ranked in 5 separate years when the division was a lot deeper than it was when Cokkell crept into the rankings. Cokkell never beat an elite fighter.Tucker beat 2 who held versions of the title at some time.Your attempt to imply he was some kind of journeyman is exactly what is has been described as .
    DISINGENUOUS.

Equally it could indicate that one boxers era was a lot deeper than another's which I think was the case here.

As Choklab rightfully pointed out, being in a deeper era means little if you don’t beat nor even face the depth of that period.. Duane Bobick fought in a pretty deep era too

Tucker was a made up champion. There was no “IBF tournament”. They simply plucked two guys from the lower half of the ring magazine rankings. Nobody knew who they were. the two of them would have competed for the USBA title and nobody would have complained.

if the fighters make the belt, what does it say if nobody knew who they were? .... “Reaching a higher level” assumes Tucker climbed above something. He didn’t. A set of circumstances presented an unearned opportunity. There was no series. No tourney to decide who the new IBF champion should be.

Yes Tucker LOST to two ATGs. I keep forgetting what a wonderful asset that is.

it is not disingenuous to say Douglas improved with wins over Berbick, Williams and McCall and got to fight Tyson around a time a lot of people think Tyson declined.

look you can disagree with me but you can’t say I am lying.

It is not a lie to say there was no IBF tourney after they stripped Spinks. That Tucker lost to Tyson. That Tucker lost to Lewis. That Tucker lost to 5’9” Orlin Norris. That Tucker never beat anyone then considered an elite fighter. That Tucker won a fight with Douglas which at that time was worthy only of a USBA label.

Cmon with the ridiculousness. Keep bringing up
The worst fight on a guys record and maybe we can use the worst version of Tucker. In that case Tucker is in a coma for a long time

What it obviously means is it would be harder to be a ranked contender in the stronger era than the weaker one.

Two title defences when Marciano was 30 and 31,Dont like them? How about AncientArchie going 9 rounds with him when Marciano was 32? Im responding to a poster saying Marciano stops Tucker in7 rounds .I reasonably asked why would he do that when he couldn't do it to the three I've just named? You are the one being ridiculous here.

What does it say when nobody gives your challenger an earthly chance of even finishing the fight?

That wasn’t the best version of Marciano or Moore by a long shot and anyone with half way decent vision could tell u that. They were both still good but not at their bests. But you consistently bring up one of Marciano’s worst prepared for fights (well documented it is and it still ended with Cockel being dominated not knowing where he was). When these fights are supposed to be the best versions of the fighters. Should we use Tyson of the Lewis fight? Or Holyfield of the Byrd fight? Maybe Lewis of the Vitali or Rahman fight? Because thag makes sense. I’d say using the best version like Marciano Layne to Charles 2 is fair.

Common McVey... you’re an honest man and you and I have stood together on many issues over the years.. You know as well as I do that Tony Tucker hadn’t beaten anyone to warrant being a #1 mandatory contender... not even for the IBF. That rating was orchestrated by Don King and Bob Lee to set up Mike Tyson’s eventual unification of the title... None of this had anything to do with Tucker having any sort of legacy or entitlement to fantasy fights with ATG’s. If we’re really gonna do this shlt should I start a thread featuring Marciano vs Francesco Damiani on the basis that Damiani once held some obscure belt and in a “ deep era ?”

Cokkell beat Lastarza and Mathews both in the ring magazine rankings prior to challenging the real world champion. That’s why he was a genuine #2 ranked contender.

Not really. Tucker only had to beat James Broad Ass (who wasn’t ranked) a month when another contender lost a fight in order to get a ranking.
