I'd say it's a definite yes.. Put in two of his career best performances coming off his two defeats.. when he massacred betting favourite Bute (a Calzaghe heir apparent in the opinion of some) & starched Groves on the way out the door.. provided modern classics with Kessler, Taylor & Pascal.. stood little Artur Abraham on his head.. got a bit of a banana skin in a stinker with Direll but that kid negated his better boxing with his ridiculous behaviour.. beat road warrior Johnson when he still had a little bit left .. lower level guys he beat like Mack, ageing Reid , Adamu, Magee etc too.. Had that brilliant run of opposition.. mostly on the road.. & probably a bit of an overachiever if I'm honest considering his limitations skill wise.. but granite chin, conditioning, heart & will pulled him through mostly.. Probably the #1 British fighter of the first half of the last decade imo.. Only lost to two fellow world class SMWs.. never KOd.. & came up the hard way without all the sycophantic media hype & 15 sports scientists behind him.. Definitely a HOF fighter.. what say you?
Absolutely. Look at the names on some of those scalps. And the thing is -- he beat most of them at their best/prime. WARRIOR. The most overlooked factor IMO when considering a fighters greatness is: did they consistently challenge themselves and fight the best opponents they could for the most part and consistently prove their elite status against the most elite opposition available? Froch without a doubt did. One word definition for "getting after it" -- Froch
I remember when Froch boxed Yusaf Mack, nailed him in like 3 rounds. It was his only "softish/guaranteed win" since before facing Pascal in 2008. Froch faced everyone and anyone. No shame in losing to Ward and Kessler (which he avenged). Just think back to his run and be like wow, he keeps taking hard fights. He's earned it!
Maybe a better career but Joe would have outclasssed him I reckon. 8-4 or 9-3 to Joe In a 12 round unanimous decision.
Agree with all the OP's points. Add that to the fact that Froch took British Boxing from leisure centres to Wembley Stadium without any false hype. More than any Fighter of his era, he got people talking about Boxing again. I know Hatton had his great following in Manchester and Calzaghe's win over Lacey was a huge statement but Carl got people talking about Boxing who didn't know a left hook from a meat hook. A viscerally thrilling Fighter. Get him in !
Yes! Carl The Cobra Froch my original pick to win the Super 6. The guy was an old school warrior with and iron will who was never out of a fight. I thought he beat Kessler in their 1st fight he should be a 1st ballot HOFer.
Has to be, the resume, the fan friendly style, the run of wins, the fact he 'can't be knocked out' all make for a nailed on HOFer
I've had discussions with some of the guys from the BWAA and I was (for one year) and auxiliary member of the BWAA. People are so interested with tho the BWAA selects to enter the Hall; they really shouldn't be. The way the HOF weekend is run seems brilliant. It seems like a great time for the boxers and the fans. That's a great thing and it should continue to be held every year because that part of it is great. But the voting for who gets in, essentially, is a joke. A lot of people don't know about the fighters they're voting on. A few of them, IMO, shouldn't be voting at all. Who is or isn't in the hall is meaningless.
