I think this is a 50-50 fight but I give Thomas the edge on points. Thoughts?

I think the best Thomas outboxes the best Mercer and he has the chin to take Mercer's shots.

I always wonder why Pinklon is hardly ever mentioned. Mercer seems a lot more popular for some reason.

    Thomas UD

He's got a nice height and reach advantage and he'd be sticking that jab in Ray's face all night long. Mercer wouldn't get his offense untracked.

Pinklon Thomas had more potential than any heavyweight of his generation until heroine use depleted his talent. If we’re talking about the Pinklon from 1982-1984 he soundly outboxes Mercer, no problem... But the Thomas who lost to Berbick and beyond would get stopped late..

I am going with Mercer by controversial SD. Mercer had a tighter guard and a great jab himself.

Spot on mr Magoo. Thomas of the earlier time frame would out point Mercer and have Ray lookin very basic.

A focused Mercer would be very difficult for Pinklon. Mercer could match Thomas jab for jab. I go with Pinklon as I think he would just "want it" a little more than Ray.

Pinky at his best should win on points boxing carefully behind his jab .if he tired or started getting involved he would be in real trouble .Mercer was a very dangerous proposition for any HW in history.

Pink is a bit of a one armed fighter IMO. I liked him alot when I was a young man but I think less of his abilities now and more of Mercers who I never paid much mind too until he was robbed against Lewis. I think Ray is actually the bigger under achiever of the two. Ray had more talent IMO. Both at there best I like Ray by a clean UD

I don't think he'd be too much of a problem for a 1967 Muhammad Ali.

I agree with your assessment that this would be a close fight. My feeling is that the judges would give a close decision to Mercer as he would land the more eye catching shots. Thomas may land more but not as clean due to the Ray's tight guard.
