After watching Wilder with Fury, I don't think this is out of the realm of possibility. Of course, Fury had the size and reach to deal with Wilder's, but Roy would have the speed. It's possible that Wilder might never touch him, lol.
That was the last time that Roy wasn't past it. When he fought Ruiz he still retained his skills and stamina in how he moved up to HW. It wasn't until he went back down to LHW that he lost the 20 pounds of muscle as he says.
Wilder could knock anyone out including a guy in RJJ that would later turn out to be chinny. But RJJ the version who fought Ruiz still had enough slickness and stamina to go 12 rounds and not get caught like Fury did. You'd have to favor Roy winning a decision with a relatively small chance of Wilder timing him perfectly and landing a devasting punch.
Wilder ends Roys career around the 7th round. I dont care how good Roy was... theres simply no way hes beating someone as powerful and long as Wilder, imo. And the Fury fight is completely irrelevant to a Roy fight.... Furys size played a big roll in him surviving the 12 rounds.
Just as a reminder.... Roy would be 7 to 8 inches shorter than Wilder. And have like 9 inch reach disadvantage. Against a concussive puncher that, regardless of internet jokes, can absorb enough punishment to stay in the fight and remains deadly every minute of the fight. Genuinely hard for me to see a 5'11 Roy winning this.
The funny point is people are saying today HW division is among the strongest ever, but y'know what, maybe RJJ can defeat Wilder.
Roy would be sent back to the matrix if he dared enter the ring against the devastating bronze bomber!
Roy was 34 and caught a few good right hands against Ruiz. People forget that Roy did get hit in that fight and that he had been slowly sliding before tarver. His LHW competition in 2001-2002 just wasn't that good Maybe if he had moved up 3-5 years earlier he could do it
How the **** do people see Jones beating Wilder? And I'm the one who's a Wilder hater! Wilder KO. Whenever it comes.
