A lot of us are going to have to apologize when a 5-10, 185 pound, slow moving man, who moves his right foot first when moving left, and falls to the floor when he misses a punch defeats the big athletic guys who are getting bigger and stronger despite warnings from "Message Board Boxing Experts" that additional size and strength work against them in a fight. When that small, slow man shows us that the "intangibles" that are only apparent to Message Board Boxing Experts, overcome skill, size, strength, speed, and overall athleticism, we'll have to apologize.

From reading this board, it's only a matter of time before a man comes along who lacks size, lacks athleticism, has no use for boxing skill/conventional footwork, trains by throwing rocks, and hits a big heavy bag...when that man comes along, we'll all be sorry for doubting the "Message Board Boxing Experts."

 

While I absolutely agree with all of this, I also have tremendous respect for what Marciano achieved. Tho he didn't fight at the elite level for long, there is not much of an argument that he ducked anyone. He didn't draw the color line. He didn't seem to be mob-controlled. Sure, it was a very poor era but there's not much he could have done about that. He was a warrior, through and through.

 

Tucker came up in the 1980s. And he did not dominate it.

Look at him against Bivins and Ron Richards and tell me you can't see a serious decline in his mobility by the time he fought Rocky!
