Look at your strengths and work with that. See what you can get away with and what gives you success in the ring. That’s your style, but never stop evolving.
What a horrible thing to say to someone. Depends on your physical base: strength, speed, discipline, power, durabillity, Also depends on your coach and how good they are at focusing on and exploiting your positives.
The first question a fighter should ask themselves when trying to hone their style is to figure out if they have power. If you have power build your style around that. If you dont build your style around not having power.
Willie, you don't pick your style, your style picks you. Ray Arcel, the greatest trainer of them all used to say, " You can never change a kid's style, only improve it ". Do you have a trainer ?
I think you have to work with what you've got and go from there. For example, awhile back when I started fighting, I always thought I was an inside fighter because I really enjoyed watching these type of fighters and their styles. So I would practice by myself in the park (before I started going to the gym), thinking to myself it was the best style for me. Went to a gym, started shadow boxing with this style for a few days, my new trainer comes up to me and tells me, "Don't get mad when I tell you this but that's not the style for you. You have long arms for a long reach, you should be fighting from the outside..." Something along those lines... The point is, it was a completely different style, opposite style really of what I thought was a good style for me. I probably could've done ok if I stuck with the style I liked in the beginning but it wouldn't be the best for me. Of course I didn't get mad or anything and my boxing improved tremendously after that so I think, instead of picking and choosing which style you like, like others have said, the style will come to you based on your good points and abilities. Happy boxing and hope you find a style that fits you and only you.
But its the truth I always tell that to my boxers, if you think this is hard you are not made for the journey. There is no point of getting yourself beaten up for no reason, boxing is very dangerous. Do you know what is the turn over rate if the session starts at September by mid-October I am looking for 50to 60% drop out ratio. About 3/4 out of 20 do their first fights.
Your style is built on your natural ability. What is yours ?? That thing that is coming to you easy, that's your style, like if you use the jab and you feel by getting better every time more then other punches. That where you want to go. if your boxing coach does not have the same style as you you are stuck, and you will feel like you can't progress. go with the feeling how you are the most comfortable in boxing then look for the coach exactly the same Style or similar. don't be afraid to change coaches loyalty and friendship are two different things and you need to look after yourself.
It took my coach about a month to find a style for me but mine is a world class trainer whose trained 3 world champions I think it depends on the coach and how you fight specifically
