Let's get some facts straight here if Whyte would have agreed to fight Ortiz when he had the chance he would have had his title shot by now, so the whole I will fight anybody I deserve my shot is bollocks I'm afraid . If Whyte was that bothered about really really wanting his shot then he should have also agreed to fight Joshua when he had the chance.!!!!!
Well they are facts I'm afraid !!! I agree the WBC are taking the **** but he has had a clear opportunity with Joshua rematch and wilder would have had to fought him by now if he had beat Ortiz.
I don’t debate he had the opportunity to fight an eliminator. My point is he has already been number 1 so he should get the fight. Fury turned down a title shot with Wilder but then is installed mandatory a few months later. The rankings are all a joke and all about politics.
That maybe so but he should have fought Ortiz, fury was a voluntary but had a rematch clause so that's a binding contract so has to take priority, I do feel for Whyte as he deserves a title fight more than any other heavyweight but he is also to blame, if he had fought Ortiz he would have lost to wilder by now!!! No excuses for not taking the Joshua rematch , many challengers for world title fights have done so for peanuts, I believe Whyte was offered 2 million maybe more, you can't bang on about no getting a shot and then turn that down, most fighters would challenge for a world title for a 10th of that in fact most do!
Ortiz being pushed in Whyte's path always looked dodgy to me. he'd been comprehensively beaten by Wilder and yet all of a sudden, having done very little he was mysteriously promoted once again. whats more wilder suddenly started sounding like Ortiz's promoter. Almost as if the entire thing was written by Al Haymon.
Hearn needs to bring back the old sky sports 1 Friday night fights for the British title at York hall, it would sell and also sell on dazn imo
I remember when Matchroom had their plan of facing Bellew off against Haye's mate Flores so they could set up that fake rivalry. However, as being the WBC champ, Bellew could only face an opponent who was in the top 15. Flores was ranked in the high 20s. Low & behold, Flores moved to number 14 in their rankings without having a fight. That's one example of many.
Hearn and matchroom use to put big nights on in the UK, paying over the odds for good fighters/ champions in the hope that their fighter won , unfortunately with the dazn money they no longer need to which means as fans we are getting poor cards in the UK or 4am fight nights! I do Miss the great cards at the O2 and Manchester arena but that's just boxing now it's becoming like football where is use to be a working class spectator sport but now like boxing it's only the rich who can afford to watch the big events live! I also feel that even without the dazn deal ,matchroom would struggle to get the big names over to the UK now as fighters and rightly so want a fair fight and it was and still is becoming more and more of a risk for champions to come here and getting dodgy cards!! Poor old Beltrán..........
Higher level British Boxing is not where it's at... it's the lower level British Boxing where everything truly shines. Higher level fighters are massive divas, whereas the lower level fighters are proper warriors and fighting men.
Yep. This is nothing new for me. I find always lose my feeling of interest a bit when a crop of established fighters hit retirement ages at roughly the same time. It leaves a real gap in terms of interesting plotlines to have a lazy eye on.
Makes it worse that both AJ & Wilder never wanted any part of each other, and both teams just pretended they did for the public. Pathetic really
Well matchroom and DAZN clearly wanted the fight making numerous offers and their final offer was unbelievable 3 fight offer. PBC just don't have faith in Wilder to win clearly by turning that offer down.
I think both of those guys would happily have stepped in the ring. It was boxing politics that stopped it happening, principally the arrival of DAZN in US and the threat it posed to the established order of Fox, Showtime and of course Top Rank and PBC.
