I think if you put Joe Louis in the place of Holmes, Louis would make it to 49-0

As were many of Larry's opponents were for him. It was 14 years until Joe lost again.

    Absolute piffle.

Both were weak eras, with underachievers at the top.

At least the underachievers of Louis's era, could keep themselves in shape, and relevant for more than two years!

Cut the dense chat. When I'm disrespectful to you, say what you like. That's just one example. Larry owned, possibly still does, a bar in Easton, LH's, and was often seen in there. A good red was his favourite.

Doesn’t make it appropriate on a public forum but I’ll leave the subject at that.

Louis was two years removed from his professional debut , when he lost to Schmeling.

Look at who any other great heavyweight in history was fighting, the same number of months into their career.

    It will be a revelation!
He hit like a truck, and he was destroyed in the early rounds anyway.

He also went on to be the #1 contender, when he upset Lou Nova.
Who says that Braddock was not noted for being a puncher?

    That argument is complex!
Not sure where Ali comes in, but your pattern is this:

Both Louis and Ali, fought nearly twice as many currently ranked opponents, as any other heavyweight champion.

This massively increased the risk of them getting dropped, or stopped for that matter.

Ali obviously comes out of that argument much better, but he still got dropped by guys like Cooper and Wepner for example.

Louis fought a hell of a lot of punchers, and had to get in close to take them out!

To attack either of these guys based upon their chins seems ridiculous!

Mike Tyson was two years into his pro career and was the WBC/IBF/WBA champion of the world...prime..Tyson might loose against prime Louis but there is zero risk he is loosing to Schmelling.....even Buster Tyson waxes Schmelling. Case closed.

These people want to have it both ways. Schmeling is extraordinary because he waxed Joe Louis by exploiting a glaring flaw but Schmeling's accomplishment is no knock on Louis because Louis wasn't prime yet, but the fact that Louis wasn't prime yet is no knock on Schmeling's accomplishment.

Lets just align their timelines for a second.

Joe Louis was taking on recently dethroned champion Primo Carnera, when Tyson was taking on 19-5-0 Dave Jaco!

When he was taking on the recently dethroned Max Baer when Tyson took on James Tills.

The Schmeling fight comes around approximately around the time of the Berbick fight, so we have to give that to Tyson.

After that, it is all Louis!

It sounds like Louis really only has one peer in his early career!

You can resolve that argument, simply by saying that they were both good.

It's not like these people, have to argue that both fighters lost the fight!
