If you are going to quote me be accurate! Here is what I said. " he never faced a modern sized prime heavyweight who would could hit like the three I mentioned therefore his chin is unproven in that respect" Douglas of Tokyo would box Marciano's ears off. Holyfield beats him up. "Lewis dances around him" what a crock of ****, he'd take his head off! Balance is one of the most important of attributes for any fighter. Fan boy nonsense is ineffably boring.
Maybe you didn’t watch the Tua Lewis fight fan boy? I’d guess Marciano was better then Rahman so maybe he doesn’t kill him. Decision win is fair enough imo. Holyfield is grossly overrated. There is no mythical Tokyo Douglas. Talk about fan boy nonsense. Douglas was who he was. He beat an ill prepared Tyson but that’s Tyson’s faukt and part of who he was. Douglas wouldn’t last long against Rocky for many reasons.
Yes I watched it and Lewis didn't dance round him he waited for Tua to come in and jabbed him silly . Go back to your Rockista worship your not rational on this subject fella!
did you read the post on this page by Gazelle Punch? He wrote the following and the bold, underlined part reveals what he knows about boxing fundamentals/technique. "Marciano did face modern sized HWs they weren’t the best and he destroyed them. Douglas stands zero chance against Marciano...zero. Holyfield doesn’t stand much of a chance either. Lewis would do a fine job and dance around him for a decision. The fighters of the 80s were worse then the 50s imo or they were really close in comparison. Tyson and Marciano had different skill sets. Not many fighters looked more aesthetically pleasing then Tyson. He was a smooth operator but he had a lot of holes as well. Obviously his balance was better (when thinking of HW champion skills I don’t think balance has ever come to mind maybe the least important attribute), hand speed was great maybe top three, and combinations and punching from different angles also superb. But he threw a lot less punches. His stamina was ****, And mentally couldn’t handle adversity. Those are some glaring holes that aren’t up for debate." He thinks "balance"...is the least important attribute...this guy has never been in a gym. These guys post what they hear or read, but they eventually reveal themselves.
Yeah, I chatted with him about that a few times. I'm sure he was right. But I think that it would be true of any heavyweight champion. The heavyweight champion is the best person on the planet at doing the sport. It would definitely, definitely be incredibly impressive to see him from twenty feet. It would also be impressive to see every other heavyweight champion who had ever lived from that distance. Many, many boxers who were not the champion, too. Similarly, being in the ring with Marciano or Tyson - or Hagler or Monzon - would probably be an astonishing experience. It's absolutely true that you would see things being in the ring with all great fighters that you wouldn't see outside of the ring, and that you would experience things differently from 20 feet away than from 400 feet or on television. But it doesn't mean that much IMO.
I unlike you have been in the gym and if Marcianos balance were so bad he would have been knocked down far more then two times in his career. Hence why I know you’ve never even stepped in a ring. Hell you don’t even know what skills you’re looking at which you’ve admitted.
Yeah, people who think that Marciano wasn't very good can't be helped. You can't help them with what Joe said and you can't help them with surgery. But, as you know, if you saw Wladimir Klitschko delivering jabs from ringside you would come away thinking "holy ****". You wouldn't be able to persuade people that think he was awful that he wasn't though - and there's something else of course. You might not be able to shake that impression and it might muddle your thinking in comparing Wlad to guys you just saw on film. But i'm not saying one thing or the other really.
Balance is the whole game, from stance to movement to punching, defense, etc. It's not about walking a tightrope, it's about shifting weight and getting power, movement without leaving yourself open, without crossing the feet, keeping the feet under the body, and not reaching. People who have been in the gym will notice what the feet are doing, probably before watching the upper body when evaluating a fighter. When someone writes that balance is not important...it tells me everything.
Never stated balance wasn’t important it’s just not the most important attribute. I think most people would agree chin power speed stamina timing are slightly more important. Plus like I said Marciano’s balance is a problem exasperated by his detractors. He wasn’t falling all over the place like many try to say and if it was thag bad there is no chance of surviving a career against the best without getting knocked over with bad balance more then the two times he was knocked over . Hence why I know you’re full of it.
