I remember when I did a my thread about him a lot of people thought he wasn't great and wouldn't go far, now here a lot of you come hopping on his d*** I'm happy to see this development. Next will be Usyk jump on his bandwagon early, he's better than Beterbiev. After all he did beat Beterbiev.
iv been hyping him since 2013:good did a thread on grading the best prospects to come out of the olympics, all have held true so far apart from maybe Damien Hooper but i feel he can come back:good
Well I would have had I been posting on here in 2013:yep I only started posting in May of 2014 despite joining in 2013. I haven't done a thread on Hooper for a reason, I didn't have faith in him and I was right. But you never know.
i have faith in his talent ,i don't have faith in his discipline and fragile mental state, the guy is a bit nuts. But his talent is obvious and you can't predict him having a glass chin, but if he moved out of austrailia he could achieve, he also has a kid on the way that might help him iv always seen Beterbiev as better than Mekhontsev, i rank them 1.Beterbiev 2.Gvodsyk 3.Bivol 4.Mekhontsev
Hooper may get better, but that chin doe..... And I agree with you in rankings I like Mekhontsev, but I don't like him nearly as good as many others do, Gvozdyk on the other hand has a ton of talent, and good looks, he could become a very big and marketable star if Arum would just push him already. Bivol is solid but I want to see him in a few more matches as a pro before I jump to ant definitive conclusions.
Gvodsyk should be facing top 20 opposition already, he was like 10-0 in the WSB and also knocked out the current APB world champion, Arum needs to get his finger out Bivol is exceptional and i'm tempted to rate him ahead of Gvodysk but Gvodysk is also excellent Mekhontsev will make it to world level but his lacking, and i can't put my finger on where his lacking, i just don't think he was ever going to make a great transition to the pro's
TB, maybe Communism developed amateur boxing in Stalin's Russia, but it did not allow those top amateurs to develop and fight the top pro fighters from America those bygone days. Based on the fact that today the Russians Dominate the MW, the lightheavyweight and HW fighters, I am certain that there would have been a slew of champions from the Russian empire those days as there is today. The present tells us that...
burt, I firmly believe that the Russians would have been a formidable presence in all the divisions of boxing had they been able to go pro back in Stalin's era, all the way up to the present time IMO. I'm very impressed by them.
how many great fighters will emerge from Russia and eastern Europe? time will tell, igor vystotsky would have been heavyweight champion 40 years ago if he had of been allowed to turn pro.
You miss 100% of the shots you never take. I know I make more right calls than wrong so things are working out pretty swell overall.
