Is it the same tho wiz. If these promoters start losing money on guys...they need to incur all the costs. 100 percent of the cost. Theres nothing to share out.

Thats not exactly mugging someone off thats just no one in business can continue to lose money and expect to stay in business. I dont think you can blame anyone for doing that. Nothing really sneaky about it...its just the reality of the situation. You no longer make money....no one can really continue to bankroll that.

Different if theres a big pot to share out tho and you refuse to pay 10 to 20 percent for the development. The risk they took in you. Their expertise. Arranging fights. Organising fights. Selling tickets. Training you in state of the art facilities. And all the other things that go with promoting and managing a fighter.

A fair bunch of points there
I guess my point was that a fighter should maximise earnings before being put out to pasture
Its a crappy business to be honest
One that friendships tend to disolve over alot

Ultimately one punch can end a boxers career/life. Josh obviously feels that TopRank is the better deal. Whether that be to open him up to the American market, better promotional team to boost his profile or a better financial offer per fight. Regardless the reason the choice is his, at the end of the day its him inside the ropes when the bell rings.

It happens in a lot of sports, big time footballers for example leave small clubs to pursue bigger dreams. You want loyalty get a dog, this is business.

Lee McGregor was another who left. I'm sure I heard it was a very awkward relationship with him and Shane. Cameron never had anything good to say about them I was told.

For what it's worth I think Taylor was clever in joining Cyclone at the time to ride the Frampton wave. I imagine Taylor and Carl are still friends and will have had many private discussions.

Difference with football is that clubs get a transfer fee if the player is still under contract with the club.

Problem is the whole system falls apart and has been for a while. How many serious promoters are left. How many serious trainers are left in britain. Not many...because the reality is its a sinking ship. Boxings a bad investment for most. The knock on effects massive.
True mate it is a crappy business....i wonder how many promoters/trainers/managers etc will be around in twenty years the way its going. Its almost not really worth it. Luckily the mcguigans will be allright...but what kind of effect does this stuff have on the sport. Theres already limited oppertunities for young guys in the game trying to come through.

Without money being filtered down the sport you wonder how long people will be interested at the promotional/training/management level.

The money the mcguigans could have made could have been used to grow and give other guys oppertunities like taylors had.

Not taylors problem but there should be rules to it. I still say loyalty and paying ten or twenty percent is more than fair for what they,ve done for him. They deserve the oppertunity to further his career.

Failing that instead of being online bamming up how great your new deal is....if its such a great deal...pay the men their due.

They deserve it considering the risk they put into him. His development. The training facilities. Their expertise. Getting the fights....promoting events etc.

Surely its not fair to just use them for it when your losing them money and try make the change when you start making the big money. Otherwise whats the point of being a manager/promoter/trainer. The ten to twenty percents a fair system thats now being exploited by fighters.

Ten or twenty percents a fair price. Taylor still ends up with 80 percent. The lion share. Dont get how people think their the ones robbing the fighters nowadays by taking 10 or 20 percent for all the work they put in.

They have had 20% of his career so far.

However the reality is that his last three fights required the involvement of Sauerland and then also Matchroom. Why should a fighter be happy giving a share to two or even three promoters?

That happened because the McGuigans are small time and not capable of fulfilling their side of the bargain.

The McGuigan's did a great job with Taylor, as they did Frampton. They invested significant money in them, landed the right fights at the right time and brought both guys to the top of their divisions in a relatively short space of time. That is not easy at all without the big network money/promotion behind them and the McGuigan's haven't had that luxury. However, when you reach the top of the division, you need said luxury. World titles are no longer enough, it's all about that PPV/American network loot.

In saying all of that, the McGuigan's must be doing something wrong because none of the splits have been amicable. In fact, it's been the opposite. Lets not forget Barry had a financial bust up during his own boxing career with Barney Eastwood followed by another financial disaster in retirement after setting up an organisation to help fighters in retirement. Can it all be bad luck? I doubt it. At best he's badly advised financially.

It's a strange one. On the face of it, Shane is an excellent young trainer who gets close with his fighters and delivers top results. Barry appears the father figure who knows the sport inside out and really cares for his fighters. Yet here we are, another bitter looking split.

If u have seen the ifl Taylor interview and you put 2 & 2 together, I'm coming to the conclusion that MTK have approached Taylor and made him an offer.
It's been a very good offer and after speaking to Mtk about his contract with cyclone they have gone over the contract and found ways out ,
I.e the contract hasn't been adhered to, right to the letter. This is not unusual in promotional contracts.
He might of got a better deal than he did with cyclone and he's now signed with the biggest platform in boxing.

It's of note that Taylor clearly stated in the interview that he " now has to maximise his earning potential" - (his words). He is now 30 and knows that he doesn't have long left.

I think that Taylor has just had a better offer and has taken it.
In business there's nothing wrong with that, in fact as a buisness model,it's the right thing to do.
Did he have ethical obligations to adhere to. Yes he does, any interactions we have with our fellow human beings we should uphold our morals and principles whether that's in the business world or not.
We don't have all the information at this point and im only making assumptions about Taylor's choice of career move but I do think that we should be careful of making a pubic character assasination on Taylor's moral standards, until we have all the information.

That's if we will ever get all the right Info.

Every fight could be their last, injuries happen and earning potential is lost. Taylor has had a fantastic career so far, but has he earned life long money? Can Cyclone deliver that money...I don’t think they can. They can certainly get you near it but not to it imo. Cyclone have surely done ok out of it so far, it’s not been a one way street but they have to accept for the time being that this is where they are at in terms of how far they can take you.

This gets trotted out but just because an action can be described as business doesn't mean it's automatically removed from any discussion of it's morality. One can be in business and seek to act honourably. Many people do just that. They look at contracts carefully before they sign them, because they do so expecting to honour them.

Boxing is a dangerous sport and it's a short career. That doesn't give anyone carte blanche to do anything they like simply because it will increase their earnings. Josh could mug fans as they leave the arena. Quick punch to the face and take their wallet and mobile. It's a short career after all?

Yeah it's unfortunate but certainly not surprising. Not very often many relationships last from start to finish in boxing.

Think theres a stark difference between legitimately leaving Cyclone promotions and assaulting then robbing someone. Cyclone aren't big enough to promote at the top level its that simple, they can get a new pro to a decent level but breaking america etc they just dont have the calibre nor experience

Barry and Shane have had 20% this far, theyve been paid and Josh seeks bigger things that cyclone arent able to deliver.
