Radzhab Yusupovich Butaev born 12/15/1993 is a 5'10 1/2 Welterweight with a 12-1 9 KO's record. Born in Salsk, Russia and fighting out of Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, he's also listed as being born in Khasavyurt, Russia, who knows. Butaev who hails from the Pontic-Caspian Steppe and is an ethnic Avar, I've been meaning to do a thread on for a few years now, I was a fan of his WSB work, where he picked up a few impressive scalps, including Iglesias, Fitzgerald and Berinchyk. He's one of the more impressive prospects in and around the Welterweight division, he's also fought at Light Middleweight, but I never got around to it before he took an L at the hands of Alexander Besputin. But do not hold that against him, merely seeing the L on his Boxrec doesn't tell the story of that fight. He was in the fight every step of the way, and in my opinion arguably did enough to get a draw, and Besputin is nothing to be sneezed at, also probably one of the top prospects in the sport. Butaev forced him to play the role of a counter puncher for a change, walking him down throughout punishing him brutally every time he got him along the ropes. Besputin is usually the come forward aggressor who punishes his opponents, in this fight the tables were turned, and it forced him to show a new dimension to his game as well as Butaev, who's also shown an adeptness to fighting off the backfoot as well. Regardless, Besputin is a very heavy handed and a very skilled fighter, and the fact that Butaev walked through his bombs without blinking an eye, means, he has an amazing chin, and he showed an amazing gas tank, with him still looking fresh throwing bombs in the 12th round. So this was the ultimate learning experience for him, one in which he excelled even in losing.

Butaev when I say he methodical, that's an understatement, whether on the back or front foot, he's quite economical with his punches, dare I say that's his one glaring flaw, that he really needs to fix. He tends to want to land the perfect shot all the time, and tends to be apprehensive if he doesn't find that opening, not out of fear of being countered, but because that's just how he fights. Regardless, he's really excellent at what he does, and if his opponents isn't hauling ass from the opening bell, he's probably going to methodically dismantle them, grind them down and get them out of there. He's going to be a handful for almost anyone and it wouldn't shock me if he was capable of taking the scalp of one of the biggies at Welterweight, the idea that he could beat a Garcia, Porter, Thurman, hell even a Spence isn't far fetched. He has solid footwork, is rangy, very heavy handed, really sits down on his shots, is accurate as hell, a nasty left hook and a brutal straight right, throws from odd angles, is physically intimidating, has decent defense and can be quite slick when he wants to be, and is talented on the front and backfoot. Good, hopefully they overturn the result, I thought it was a draw or a close win for Butaev anyway, and damn his chin which thought it was pretty damn good to start with, is even better than I thought.

I feel like in defeat he was the more impressive of the two. Sounds stupid I know but Besputin basically ran and held when he needed to, used his faster hands to good effect.

I felt the exact same way, Besputin hauled ass from the opening bell, and shoeshined throughout, he did what he had to do to win and didn't care if he looked impressive or not, because he was scared. He realized very quickly Butaev was far more physically strong and very heavy-handed, he knew he didn't want none. Butaev never stopped coming forward, cut the ring off very well, and by far landed the more impressive shots between the two. Sadly he only one about four rounds definitively, the other four that were up for grabs went the way of the a-side.

Over-represented in boxing/crime/wars considering that Avars are barely 1 million, in contrast to 3 Billion India-China

Historically those folks were militarized by the imperial powers who usually fight them..find out they are good at it, then use them as Mercs, the ones left in the mountains are genetically/linguistically closely related to Dagestani (ala Maxim Dadashev). Many researchers tried to figure out who are those people, usually relating them to other ethnic groups to make sense of their existence, but when DNA testing arrived, it turns out the Avars & Dagestani are primarily related to each other, with moderate male contribution to other linguistically related ethnic groups.

Chechens-Ingush have a higher percentage of those male lines but with a strong West Kavkaz substrate, we can't say Kavakazed as the Mykop culture is at least partially connected to the same people, those mountains look close on maps, but it created the isolation that allowed different people to survive assimilation by the Neolithic people, Indo-Europeans and later imperial invasions

All of this makes sense, as it seems their evolutionary purpose is to inspire other humans in the Boxing Ring

Damn...that is some solid empirical evidence there.

One thing I learned, never mess with Chechens. If you are solid with them they are like your brothers for life but if you dishonour them they will put a beating on you.

    Genetic beasts

One of their heavyweights, Arslanbek Makmudov, is one to watch.

Ahh OK. Cool, it's always good to learn about other cultures, makes you more interesting to others!

My background is Kashmiri with Pashtun ethnicity from grandfather's side. You ever see those Afghani people with the green eyes and pale skin that look like Eastern Europeans? That's what I look like
