Good to see Leto get a mention. Tough welterweight of the 30s, who fought 9 HOFers - beating 6 of them and drawing with 2 others. Largely forgotten today.

Didn't Kirkland lose to Fred Hutchings next time up and Hutchings got the Title shot ?

I dunno but you’re probably right. It just that I remember someone here posting that Laing didn’t fight again for more than a year or so after beating Duran so I thought maybe it was because he was waiting for the expectant title shot but it never came?

Merciless Ray Mercer won the lightly regarded (at the time) WBO title but never received a shot at the big three (WBC, WBA, IBF).

I thought the fight against Lennox Lewis was for the WBC title vacated by Riddick Bowe?

Les Darcy and Henry Hank are good picks, but Castellani fought Bobo Olson for the title.

From memory yeah, he didn't fight for a year but I think that was more down to Kirkland's " Lifestyle ". I'm not sure whether the fight with Hutchings was an official eliminator by Fred got the shot at Hearns.
    Papp is a great shout.

Duff was in Finnegan's corner for the 1st Hagler fight, not sure about the 2nd.It was Duff who called the Doctor in when Kevin was badly gashed the Doctor didn't stop the fight ,so Duff retired Kevin.
