Steward is on point in my opinion. Both the positive and negative points of view... Is Marciano the greatest heavyweight in history head to head? Of course he isn't, There are many heavyweights that beat him convincingly in my opinion. But does that mean a natural Lt. Heavy/ super Middleweight like Ward defeats him as some have said in a diffrent post? Of course it doesn't. In fact I think he'd destroy a relatively light puncher like Ward. Ward wouldn't have the firepower to keep Marciano honest.

Marciano beat everyone he was supposed to beat. Sure the key fighters he faced were past prime, and may have been naturally Lt.heavys but they were the best opponents available at the time. Some how he overcame the many physical disadvantages he had and became heavyweight champion of the world. That in itself deserves the utmost respect.

I don't believe it's possible to be an overachiever. Just like nobody can give 110%. Yes Marciano had a strong ethic and desire to provide for his family and prove himself.
Having Al Weil as his under the table matchmaker might have been the Over in his achievements. Rocky did get opportunities and he was able to blend with Charlie Goldman. He made the most out of them.

Steward was brilliant in many ways. He saw things others could not. And that a great trainer. Hearns was lucky to have him.

Everyone has a favorite,, but if you step back and examine this objectively I can't see much to argue with concerning his critique of Marciano. The thing I like about the Rock is what todays fighters could use, his heart , willpower, strength of character and determination. When he retired I believe Marciano was in the top 5, probably behind Louis, Dempsey, and Tunney. He might be behind a Jeffries also.

Rocky was one of the greats without any doubt.
What McVey can't stand is fanboys lacking even a fundamental knowledge of the game, making asinine remarks ,then after getting called on them , quietly folding their tents and crouching below the parapet.
Gazelle Punch, for all his histrionics about Marciano at least has the balls to give his reasons for his opinions, unlike yourself who is just an inconsequential mosquito buzzing around, notable only for his mildly annoying behaviour.
