Loma has the ability to outbox/counter him, but Pac has the ability to drop and stop him. A well timed shot from Linares=drop. From Pac= nighty-night.
Would be an interesting fight, I give Loma the edge in footwork and many the edge in hand speed and combination punching. But manny had some pretty great footwork of his own, and the gap wouldn't be that significant of an advantage for Loma. Also, manny was brilliant at leaping forward and throwing combos on you , and he could do it from a good distance away, where as Lomas footwork is more evident when he pivots around his opponents in up close infighting. Manny wouldnt allow him to get so close. He would pop in and out and fluster Loma with combos all night. I see him catching Loma coming in much like Linares did, dropping him and slicing him up. Manny wins by brutal, humiliating KO in the 8th round
Good fight and I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this but I think Loma takes it. To me, even as a fan, I always felt Pac was basic/limited. His inability to cut off the ring, leaving himself open, going up and down like in a straight line...I dunno, maybe I'm way off base here but with Loma's footwork and pivoting, I slightly favor him over Pac.
If Lomachenko comes forward just 15% of the time like he usually does, bobbing and weaving, with a high volume jab, Pac annihilates him in under 3 rounds. One of Pac's easiest fights. He's the worst stylistic nightmare for Lomachenko. Oh, and Lomachenko's not registering a knockdown, either. And BTW, I find it hilarious that no one remembered that Lomachenko wanted nothing to do with a badly faded 39, 40, or 41 year old Pacquiao. Lomachenko would duck Pac even more blatantly at 135.
A basic/unlimited fighter doesn't pitch 12-0 or near complete shut outs against the likes of Algieri, Mosley, Rios, Vargas, Broner, Matthysse, and Margarito. And that's a post KO6 old and faded Manny.
When that fight was mooted, I got the impression Loma was doing it out of respect, but then Pac's looked far from finished since then, but at the time Pac wasn't as respected down to age etc, or not a viable opponent. Both prime, you have two of the greatest fighters to ever grace the ring, I don't know who wins
Good assessment. Pac always had trouble with solid counter punchers. I never made a big deal because every fighter I've watched has a nemesis or a style that they can't easily diffuse. My example is Floyd the consummate boxer, technician tactician, yet his toughest fights came against JLC & Maidana LOL! That is how I envision a Loma vs Pac @135 fight. Loma IMO won't lose to a better boxer, but he can get cut up, busted up by a wild ass little Filipino who back then had a habit of running head first- At least that is how I remember the fight with MAB- he got cut by headbutt. Side note-another fight popped up while typing - Winky Wright vs Smiling Sam Soliman. Winky had just beaten Mosley 2x & shut out Tito . Then he faces some dude who swung so wild, sometimes arm punches...by 12th round Winky was puffy-faced & red much to Larry Merhcant's post interview beginning with "Winky...U look like U've been in a fight." Winky "Man.....his style was....crazy!" That's how I envision a fight with Pac @ 135. I wouldn't be surprised if it went your way, but as for me? 135 was his last days I referred to him as the Pacmanian Devil! And for the record. A well timed shot seems to suggest the opposite of one saying it was a Real Hard Punch. Or a Real Haymaker. Or a punch that hurt Loma. Well timed to me suggests that Loma got hit by a well-schooled thinker who set it up. Well with Pac he throws str8, awkward, fast & hard. Unlike Linares Pac throws with blinding speed and has a killer instinct to follow up. Pac is fast enough at age 40 to out speed 20something year olds..so I am supposed to think he wasn't faster at age 29/30? Not fast enough to hit Loma with a punch he doesn't see?
