Don't distort my thinking. I'm not talking about guys who are possibly cracking the top 100 ATG lists. I'm talking about guys who want a seat at the table filled with inner circle greats.

You cannot be an inner circle ATG, among the absolute greatest in history without locating a great fighter in your weight class in his prime and then stepping into the ring with him.

Vasyl Lomachenko or Terence Crawford can go on to win titles in 6 weight classes hypothetically. And beat dozens of champions and former champions. Without that test, they aren't inner circle ATG's.

If Duran doesn't fight Ray Leonard he's not the same fighter. His career is not complete. He's not an inner circle ATG.

To be among the greatest ever, you have to fight the guy.

I was right on point with your thinking, nitpicking careers. Yes, you’re nitpicking Floyd’s career to push your narrative. In addition to fighting those past prime guys, he also fought guys in his own weight class, in their primes. That’s why his runs at 130/135 are relevant, that’s why you’re clutching at straws.

And I don’t think Floyd is one of the greatests, so don’t twist this around. This is all just in comparison to Ward’s career.

Do you agree that in order to become an inner circle ATG, a great fighter among great fighters, that you must fight the guy in his prime?

It's a yes or no question.

Ok, can you identify that guy in Mayweather's career?

The one who’s #1 in his weight class, in his prime just like Kovalev? That would be Corrales.

I don't mean in his weight class specifically. I mean in a broad, general sense. Not every weight class has a guy. Every weight class has a fighter considered the best, some even an outright, undisputed the man. But not every weight class a Ray Leonard or a Sergey Kovalev.

Making the argument that Ward deserved it is one thing. That's a fair and reasonable argument that you're making for Ward as FOTD.

However acting like he's "clearly" the only option is absolutely mad.

No it's not. He took on Kovalev.

Ray Leonard or Sergey Kovalev? What are you talking about? Flash news: Kovalev is not an ATG. He’s a similar level to Corrales in his prime, or Castillo. (Who was also the #1 guy at 135 when Floyd fought him)

That's disrespectful to Mayweather, Canelo and Pacuqiao. Each have legit arguments for being FOTD.

Kovalev is an ATG. Similar level to Corrales? That is not true. He was the single most dominant fighter of the first half of the decade.

I mean, Josh Taylor is the man at his weight class. But in a broad sense, is he really that guy.

That's the difference I'm talking about. Kovalev was a special fighter, through and through. You're selling him short. And I don't mean to suggest that Corrales was a bum, no he was very good. But was he anything more than good? No.

Canelo vacated his belt. And Pacquiao and Mayweather avoided the top guys who were under 35.

I and many others consider Golovkin a superior p4p fighter to Kovalev, so by this logic, FOTD should go to Canelo.

THAT'S your reason? Did you forget the part where he recaptured that belt?
