If Ben had been calling the shots for the past 18 months he probably recognised that going in as a (face saving title) co trainer, or more realistically assistant/observer wasn't going to work for either party.

He's made the step up to trainer and his tactics delivered what most independent observers agree to be a winning performance against a reigning champ in the money division, moving back down would damage his status.

Once Tyson started talking about bringing in other voices he made the right call. A clean break and he can focus on the next challenge. If Fury's successful he will still own a big part of that success through the work they put in together.

I predict a stint with Booth next, then Davison and then finishing his career with Tibbs.

I don't think Ben is averse to learning from others he probably just felt that having put in the hard yards with Tyson and beat Wilder once then why concede all that to someone else.

Its a big call from Ben and one he deserves respect for imo, it would have been the easiest thing in the world to have agreed to it and had your ready made excuse if things didn't go Tyson's way in the rematch.

As for the pressure I'd say after the first fight that the pressure is certainly on the new guy more than anyone else.

In terms of his career it’d have been a backwards step and it’d have also been bad for his reputation as it implies he isn’t good enough to train Tyson on his own. It’s also opened him up to train BJS, who clearly feels he needs someone who can work with him 1-2-1. He must be doing something right for Billy to go with him now he’s freed up.

Davison said last week that Tibbs might also be back in the corner as a trusted voice for BJS next fight

No harm. Davison is still so young and inexperienced. I think he dropped the ball pulling out of camp Fury as well. He would've gained huge experience working with Sugar Hill in the kronk gym. I understand his reasons for pulling out but I think it would've benefited him hugely in the future if he hung around. You never stop learning.

Even Shane said he would've liked Ben to be around this camp. He has the makings of a top trainer but perhaps the ego is holding him back. Just my opinion of course.

I don't disagree , makes you wonder what changes to Ben's role were put to him then for him to not want to be a part of this camp.

As for the ego thing, I think most successful trainers need/have an ego to a certain extent.

Ben was getting criticism from all angles and maybe he felt enough was enough. He also has a good record with Fury so he leaves with his reputation (and friendship) intact. He now has the chance to train Saunders for the Canelo fight which is one of the biggest in boxing. Not bad for a 26 year old gym sweeper!

It's possible that Saunders made this up but in a recent interview he said Amir Khan and others had called Davidson to train them but he turned them all down.

He didn't beat wilder it was a draw. I know u know that and I also had Tyson by a round but on the night it was a draw and even tho I had fury by a rd I've no problem with the draw.
Do u also think McCracken should of left a.j when he brought angel in.?
I give Ben respect he's done well and i think hes quite an intelligent lad in regards to training. But Tyson must of felt something needed improving and changing otherwise he wouldn't of brought another trainer in.
Tyson knows the situation far more than u or me

Khan is a trainers nightmare. Teach him a gameplan, watch him execute it perfectly fir several rounds before completely abandoning it and get starched cold.

Tyson admitted he didn't follow instructions for the schwarz or wallin fight that is the end if any fighter/trainer relationship, if he wasn't following instructions he didn't truly trust him end of.

Maybe the age / experience deficit was ultimately an issue for him, made it difficult to accept what he was being told? Whereas if he values the kronk gym heritage of sugar hill he may be more likely to listen to what his trainer is telling him.

Ultimately he's the guy stood in the ring getting punched in the face so he should make the best decision for himself. I think this is one parting of the ways though that doesn't really reflect any failings on the trainers part. BD clearly played a big role in getting Fury back to the top end of his profession.

Fair play to Davison if he manages to sign Taylor up but I doubt it. Saunders comments about leaving Ingle because he needed that 1 to 1 time sounds like Ben will be exclusive.

Not saying it was the right or wrong decision just a ballsy one from Ben.

It wouldn't have surprised me if McCracken had not been ok with AJ bringing someone else in, it depends what role McCracken would have had in that fight, he obviously felt ok with it.

Ben clearly felt his position was compromised so left, that's a big call for someone who many think is too inexperienced and not good enough at that level, surely you'd cling onto it for as long as possible, I think its an admirable move.

Lets not forget that Ben stayed when Freddie Roach was drafted in for the first fight (then tried to steal his job allegedly) so he's not all ego, makes you wonder how much his role would have been diminished this time round for him to walk.

Over to Tyson and his new trainer now to prove it was the right decision.
