Loma has plenty of mileage left sure but he's at the tipping point now so he needs a big year this year to really seal the deal.. ideally as a fan I'd like Lopez in the spring & Berchelt late summer.. who would you prefer him to fight?
Lopez and either Tank, Berchelt, or Haney as his second fight would be a fine 2020 in my book. Shame we probably won't get three fights out of him this year.
The guys you mention would be on top of my list. Lopez is mando so that fight is probably going to happen in the spring. Lopez also looked very good in his last outing so he has great momentum and confidence going into the fight. Plus he’s outgrowing the division and will probably be at 140 soon. I’d like to see Loma fight Davis before moving to 130 and Berchelt. All of these fights look to be competitive and fan friendly. Props to Teo for asking for the fight. Berchelt wasn’t interested in fighting Loma when they were both at 130. I’ll be curious to see if he’s more willing when Loma returns to the weight.
I would settle for Lopez in April and Berchelt/Vargas winner this fall. With Haney seemingly on the shelf, Lopez is the best fight that can be made at 135lbs. Many would argue, moreover, that his power and athleticism pose a greater threat to Loma than Haney's length and ring generalship. (Note: I have long since given up on the notion that the Tank-Loma fight occurs at any point before the Ukrainian is committed to an old folks home). Personally, I have been itching for the Berchelt fight for years.
Teo looked great in his last fight. I’m a Loma fanboy but I’m a boxing fan first. This should be a great fight and I hope it happens. Teo has size and power. He’s still a bit raw but is a dangerous fighter. Haney is on the shelf for a while as he recovers from surgery. I hope he doesn’t come back before he’s fully recovered and hope he fights Loma before Loma goes back to 130 to fight Berchelt. Lots of great potential fights at the weight. I didn’t mention Tank because I don’t think he has any interest in fighting top guys. He’s got LSC in his crosshairs which is disappointing because I think that would be a step in the wrong direction after the Gamboa selection. Also, Mikey Garcia is still on the horizon as he migrated back to his best weight. Hope he keeps going south to 135 where he is an elite talent. Fingers crossed but I think we will see several of these guys fight each other this year (maybe not Mikey).
