Hagler if Hagler runs in. Once more McVey you try to revise history with what Hag WOULD do, not what he did. Dreamweaver.

I tend to believe that as well, though in truth there was no blueprint yet for Duran at 160. All anyone had to go off of was a few lackluster things at 154 at the resurgent year of 1983 leading up to that November. Enough question marks to not just try to walk him down at the first bell.

I never mentioned what Hagler would do.I said Duran never "slaughtered" [your word,] a single middleweight of any
    class and he never did.
In fact he never stopped a middleweight of any
    class!
That being the case, what basis is there for assuming, if Hagler had fought a different fight, he would have been," slaughtered?"
Did Hagler have a weak chin? No, one of the all time greatest.
Was he deficient in punching power in a shootout? Far from it he never lost in a war! He has 52 kos in62 wins for a near 78% ko record.
So exactly how would Duran, who never stopped a class middleweight ,slaughter him?
NB Weak chinned weak bodied,[again your words,]Hearns met Duran head on in ring centre floored him twice in the 1 st rd and absolutely pulverised him in the 2nd ,and this was Duran's next fight after Hagler !
ps Thanks for the comic interlude! It was amusing!
    Take a lookLOL

The Hearns fight is a completely diff style. You giving Hagler credit for that? Look at Haglers ****ed up face after Duran. The reports leading up to the Roldan fight all had Hagler haunted by Durans performance. And that was Roberto s 1st middleweight fight. Hey throw up there Hearns Barkley. Then Barkley-Duran for some comparisons. Btw if you brand Hagler a puncher during his career, you never saw Hagler. He was a boxer first all the way until Hearns. Maybe you and the Long Ranger should watch Marv s career dvds before you open your pie hole.

Well Duran was always tricky. He was great and Hagler knew he had a lot of tricks so he was leery of throwing punches and maybe getting tired. Hagler came in with a fight plan to fight and control the rounds, and Duran was getting right hands in but Hagler was basically winning. The story of Duran almost winning is over done a little to help Duran's myth. Duran still lost so. Duran always got right hands in even against Hearns a little. Hagler didn't have the firepower of Hearns to knock out Duran like that. Duran's right hand was underrated at times. It was hard even at the higher weights.

I had Hagler up by 1 point.I thought he pulled it out in the last round.Marvin fought a good fight,he conserved his energy at the beginning to be certain for the strong finish.

Admittedly it would be more fun and easier to articulate while sitting in a bar drinking beer, birddogging beaver and arguing boxing.

Hagler did exactly as he should have. Give yourself the best chance to win, look good another day.
My own view is that Hagler didnt give him too much respect. Those right hands Duran was bouncing off his dome got the respect for him. Make no mistake if Hagler thought he could have thrown caution to the wind to stop Duran he would have. That would have lef him open to even cleaner shots, crisp counters.

My scorecard was very close to the official judge's. Alot of close rounds.

There was a young champion named Davey Moore that was on the way up to possibley challenge Hagler. That was June of '83 'Butchered' might not do it justice. He thought he could run over the little old guy. I'm sure that bout impressed Hagler as he saw Moore on his horizon as a threat.

True , or at the very least, the ease with which he handled a strong, natural 154-pounder had to give Hagler pause.

Hagler was not a one punch guy but he could punch. I think his record shows 62 wins and 52 knockouts. Pretty good. That is a puncher. Hagler sort of swallowed guys up and took over. The Duran fight he was cautious and he layed back and came on later and won. Hagler had some fights where he didn't look that great. Even against Roldan he was hit with some good punches. Left hooks.. The knockdown was a hook behind the head. Hearns was a case where he put his all into the fight and knew he was going to make history. And it worked out for him. He couldn't do that with all of them it would have wore him out. I wouldn't say Hagler's face was messed up after Duran. He had a swollen left eye a little. Not many guys knocked out Duran and could knock him out. He was not as small and weak as people think. He took a good punch. Hearns was just quick and had a lot of leverage. And Duran had a great right hand even higher up.. If they had a rematch I think Hagler would have fought a much more aggresive fight and stopped Duran in about 6 rounds.

Duran had nothing for Hagler. Hagler knew this. He didnt turn it up. He was content with the easy victory. Looked like a sparring match at times.

I think so. Hagler was always a boxer first. A technician in the ring.
Moore was a young champion coming up. He looked maybe a bit bigger than Hagler. He definitely had Middleweight in his sights very soon.
