It's extremely sad how underrated Martinez is. Prime vs prime, Hopkins beats him but it won't be easy. 41+ year old Hopkins would lose to Martinez simply due to Martinez' speed.
I was a big Martinez fan, from Cintron through the Williams fights he was one of the best fighters to watch at that time. IMO Still, prime for prime I'd have to go bhop in a close-ish decision. I think Martinez unorthodox style and movement would cause some problems but he was always susceptible to a flash knockdown from being caught while off balance and I think that would be enough to make it close but clear in 'nard's favour with the judges. Especially if its the blind, corrupt, inept judges of the Cintron fight!
Prime Sergio edges out prime Bhop. Too fast for Hopkins. Hopkins didn't like speed and his answer was to always clam up and fight super cautiously. Judges take Martinezs flashier punches in an ugly fight.
So a green Roy Jones with 1 hand dominated a green Hopkins. Because Jones was as green as Hopkins was. Which is to say, not very green, pretty close to their apex, but not quite there yet. Y'all must have forgot, the fight was at 160, and Jones was still improving. A totally primed out Jones with 2 hands would have dominated Hopkins even more so.
I think because he was sandwiched between Hopkins & Golovkin. I think 37+ Hopkins would lose to a prime Martinez.
1997-2002 Hopkins beats him decisively. Martinez is too technically flawed, especially in close. Hopkins from around the Taylor fight probably loses on activity, but it'd still be close.
