Very good list. I would add Mike McCallum, Miguel Cotto, Mickey Ward (of course) and most recently Badou Jack to list.
Only proven pros against live opponents with a chance and firepower themselves need apply. Cooney was a gym fighter who looked great under contolled gym workouts to make him look good. Nothing more. Someone w a great heavyweight left hook to the body proven against the best comp was Weaver. Terrific.
JC Chavez had a great one. Not usually to stop a guy with one shot, but to wear a guy down gradually.
I too like the left hook to the body, it is perhaps my money punch Mickey Ward's was a thing of Beauty
My favourite combo is a right hook to the head, as I'm shifting to orthodox and then a left hook to the liver with massive momentum
I tell ya, Ward was by no means a great fighter. Even a very good fighter. But I have never seen another fighter get total destruction like he did when he landed it right. He just never threw enough. I still cant believe Gatti lasted that round!!!!!
Wards left hook to the liver was almost like cheat mode. A pretty basic fighter in all other areas. A good but nothing special fighter but with a left to the liver that was out of this world. I’d probably have Olivares and Jofre up there too. Olivares, when he doubled and tripled on his left hooks, mixing downstairs was irresistible. Jofre, I feel is arguably the best body puncher of the last half century and his left to the liver arguably his best punch.
