Anthony Joshua's past two world title fights have been outside the UK (New York and Saudi Arabia). Great fighters like Ali, Frazier, Tyson, and Lewis all had world title fights outside their home countries. Yet Wilder refuses to travel outside the USA to defend his belt. Why does he always need home advantage? Why is he so protected?
Apart from Fury and AJ, there is no need for him to travel outside of the states. If a package can ever be put together to fight Joshua, I think he maybe tempted to fight at Wembley stadium. Still there, US venues will do.
C'mon Wilder isnt the only one. When did Mayweather ever fight outside the US in a serious fight ?? What about Ward? What about Jones jr ? What about Calzaghe he never left Britain right till the end
I can't wait to see the conspiracy theories about how Wilder somehow contaminated Povetkin's blood. Guys go where the money is. Fury didn't come to the US because he's afraid to fight at home, he came for the contract. Same reason Joshua went to Saudi and so on. I'd like to see Wilder fight in Ireland (he has gotten a good reception there), but most American fighters make their money at domestic casinos, NYC or LA.
"I don't want to go there - it's too cold". He sounded like a 5 year old, whining about it. And his management got VADA to come up with false charges of PED abuse for a microscopic trace of something that had been legal a few months before. So Wilder had his excuse to duck Povetkin and not fight outside the USA. But chickened out.
Also to people claiming the Povetkin fight counts as overseas... he didn't fight him and the only reason the fight was going to be staged in Russia is PBC lost the purse bid for the fight and Wilder would of been stripped had he refused after the bid Wilder had no say in that fight being in the U.S.
Calzaghe left Britain for his biggest fights in fairness, most of his best opponents until Kessler had been Brits too. Ward was a total *****. Mayweather was a *****. Roy seemed to be a bit of a hometown fighter too. No one thinks any higher if them for this.
What about the time he destroyed the mighty Audley Harrison in 70 seconds in Sheffield? Double checkmate.
