Even a broken clock manages it twice a day, brother.

Who knows? Might even be your turn one day ;)

Sheesh. My clock was broke up and put back together wrong 30 yrs ago! But the Feeb Brigade and Mentally Defective League stills meet for discussions of the absurd twice a week in the barn on my farm. And sometimes, one-eyed Billy brings cooookies!

Winning doesn't automatically mean someone couldn't have improved on their performance of course.

Well I suppose, but that's the case for every fight from every fighter if you really break it down. Topic for another thread I guess, "Really Flawless Performances." Meaning no wiggle room for improvement.

    Hmmmmm……..

So basically the consensus so far seems to be Hagler was getting counter punched silly by Duran until about rd 6 when Roberto hurt his right hand. With theat advantage Hagler managed to eek out an Al Berstein decision.
With that we dont know a rematch goes down. Hagler might have taken a 10 count.

    Well, quite.

Not sure what to make of that, Morlocks, me old fruit. I'm genuinely wondering if you typed that or just passed out face first into your keyboard.

The excuse is turned into Hagler taking a 10 count? In the rematch I think Hagler wins by TKO in about 6. Duran would have some sort of excuse explaining the loss.

And some here would still speak his excuses as gospel.

Exactly. That is how it has always been. He loses and his excuses are legit. He wins and it is the best win in the history of boxing. Even if it was against someone like Moore who had 11 fights.

I scored this a couple of days ago and had Hagler winning by 4 rounds so it was clear enough on my card.

But Duran definitely gave Hagler a lot to think about in a way that none of his other challengers did (until Leonard). You could see Hagler trying different things in there in each round, especially the 11th when he started to box off the back foot, which backfired ...so he went straight for Duran in the next round and lost that too.

Hagler just generally outworked Duran in my view and was the fitter fighter which made all the difference when the fight was in the balance (according to the judges’ cards) in the final two rounds.A slightly more aggressive Hagler may either have forced a stoppage or won by a wider decision but I do think Duran that night did as well as he was ever going to do against Hagler.

Lets put this one to bed.

My one knock on Hagler is that he never showed top tier in rang adaptability. I blame some of this on his corner as well. My Exhibit A's have been Duran and SRL as well as many rematches where he invariably performed markedly better after having time to sum things up.

I think there is no better opinion out there than the man himself after cooling down and having time to think about the Duran affair.

He says it all right here -
