We have been through this before haven’t we? The manager also said Williams had done “plenty of roadwork” and was 100% in excellent shape.

Ideally he would have liked more sparring..but as I explained Last time it is entirely plausible that A fighter who successfully fought just two weeks earlier, who maintained fitness since, would use that last fight as his hard sparring. he wouldn’t need open sparring, so soon, just technical light sparring, which is what he got.

A lot of fighters don’t spar so close to a fight but under these circumstances, where you have a fighter who has been through a good fight, Has stayed ticking over with roadwork

The earlier fight is used as part of the training.

I think Even Floyd Patterson did something similar as champion where by he prepared for two fights from one camp.

one thing I know though, had Williams won under these circumstances, with all those physical advantages going for him, it would be inconceivable that Bob could ever have won.

Satterfield had accrued a few losses by then due to his life style and his chin,Williams was undefeated ,[apart from dropping 4 rounder to Sylvester Jones ,]due to more cautious matchmaking no doubt.

I'ts really inexplicable why you and Mr Porky Pie Bummy have this compulsive need to put down Williams at every turn, its even more baffling that you choose to do it on a thread about Marciano???
You're like a brace of Pavlov's dogs, salivating at the sound of the trigger words, "Cleveland Williams".
    Its very odd.

How about you and choklab ease up a bit on mcvey? Just because he doesn't know as much about boxing history as you guys… does that really give you the right to humiliate him in post after post? Where's the compassion for a fellow poster, who's trying his best and is here to learn?

Yes, we've been through this before, and it's been explained to you that going jogging regularly is not adequate preparation for a fight against a world class opponent. What's more, it's obvious that you actually do understand this, or you wouldn't have spent all that time insisting that Williams was in training for another fight when he got the call to face Satterfield, until I showed you proof that it's not true.

How many times did he beat a dangerous experienced ranked slugger on a 2 days notice? How often does this happen in boxing?

How many dangerous sluggers did mike Tyson defeat on a 2 days notice? You do realize other than james tillis there weren't very many decent fighters he faced in this time period?

You failed to respond to my point about lasting damage from previous bouts.

Bonecrusher fought Tim Witherspoon twice. One time he came in short notice. And that was the time he won!

like I said earlier had Williams won this would never be an issue.

it depends entirely on the context. If a fighter hasn’t done anything for months on end apart from jogging regularly then in that case it is certainly not adequate to take a fight on a couple of days notice. But adequate isn’t the same as ideal. Having fought 14 days earlier is another matter entirely. Roadwork would be adequate.

yes you showed me proof that Williams stepped in at two days notice to fight a guy two weeks after winning his last fight to face a much smaller man who lost his last fight three weeks earlier.

I suppose it means Williams was capable at the age of 20 of koing a world ranked heavyweight which a trio here have been consistently denying.
