At LH, a weight he says he can fight at, Beterbiev would be a favorite, Bivol might be a favorite as well. I like him over Canelo at the weight and would pick Gvozdyk over Canelo but the odds would likely favor Canelo. At SMW, Smith and maybe Benevidez would be favored or closer to 5050 than any of Canelo’s recent opponents.

It’s no wonder Canelo dropped the belt rather than face Beterbiev. I think he’s too strong and mean for Canelo. Not a knock against Canelo, AB is prime. Canelo can beat a faded former great but AB isn’t faded yet so he would give Canelo a life changing beating, no matter what kind of special vitamins Canelo takes for the fight. They haven’t invented medicine strong enough for Canelo to beat Beterbiev. Not yet at least.

 

Thing is, Canelo is under no obligation to fight the beve, or any other lhw, just to please the GGG fans who are salty and want to see him hurt. The kova fight was beyond the call of duty, and should be admired, instead of cried about. If anyone can show me a post before last summer saying how washed up kova was, then they have a right to cry, if not, keep it between you and your pillow.
It's actually quite a compliment that people have to wish for a fight 2 divisions up in order to have a chance of answered prayers.

 

I am a boxing fan first. Canelo went to LH to show the world he could be a champ. He cherry picked a washed and faded opponent and made him fight drained on short notice to stack the deck in his favor. Guys like you ate it up and praised the new LH belt holder. Beterbiev is 34 years old so he’s not a spring chicken. He’s just not past prime or faded. He’s not an alcoholic outside the ring like Kov. Canelo had the sense to immediately give up the belt and travel back down to SMW where he will probably face BJS or someone not in the top three. Real champion! If GGG or any other fighter did this you guys would be whining about it. Canelo does it and you celebrate.

The guy asked me which fighters would not be underdogs against Canelo and I gave an answer. Don’t get your panties in a bunch, I wasn’t being critical. Beterbiev would destroy Canelo but it’s not a knock on cinnamon. Beterbiev is a true LH, it’s his natural weight. Canelo is a middleweight who blows up to large size by using special medications (PEDs) and beats up cherry picked opponents. He makes a lot of money so I understand the allure.

 

My post was directed at you, but not about you. Either way, you prove my point. Canelo don't belong at lhw, he is not a true lhw, like beve. So wanting them to fight, is just hoping for what GGG couldn't give you.
I don't slag GGG for never venturing outside 160, and I would have given him credit for fighting any decent smw, never mind lhw champ of the world. That's because I stay consistent with my views. They don't flip flop depending on the players.

 

You are the one who brought up GGG. I just think it’s dishonest to wear a belt at a weight class and call yourself the LH champ without defending against a top contender. Canelo should not have to fight AB to prove he’s great but he should fight him to prove he’s a true LH champ if that’s what he’s saying.

I wish Canelo would move back to 160 and unify. Forget about SMW until after he beats all the best guys at his weight and collects belts. To me, that’s greatness. Jumping up and cherry picking, beating an older or weaker champ to collect a belt, not beating top guys is just marketing. I’m not a fan of this. Unrelated to Canelo, I also don’t like boxers fighting MMA guys. Screw MMA, I want to see boxers fight (box) the best guys at their natural weight.

 

Beterbiev and Bivol have less than 20 fights and would be underdogs for sure. Smith and Benavidez would not be favored dont make me laugh.

 

His team always said this was a one off, that Canelo was slow at 175 because he's not a lhw. Nobody from his side has ever said he was the best lhw in the world, they always said this was just a fight Canelo saw as a challenge. Which everyone agreed that it was, till Canelo whooped his ass, then the excuses and cries of cherry picking kicked off... predictably.
And the same thing would happen again against most any other fighter cause the problem isn't so much Canelo, it's his butthurt detractors.

I don’t think you would be laughing if Canelo fought Beterbiev. He certainly wouldn’t be. Also, those fights are closer to even odds than any of Canelo’s recent fights. You won’t have to worry, Canelo isn’t fighting any of the guys I mentioned. And it’s not because they would be easy. Word is he’s stepping up and fighting the great BJS. Want to guess what the odds would be in that fight?

If he fought any of the guys I mentioned, I’d put a bet on any of them if Canelo was heavily favored. I believe Canelo is a betting favorite because you have to KO him to get the W these days. Corrupt judges and all.

 

You could be right. When I see a guy preen around with a World Championship belt, and his team brag about being the world champion at a weight class, I mistakenly assume he’s saying he’s the best in the division. I guess it just means, he found a guy at the weight he could beat. Maybe you could say he picked the guy, you know, like a grape or a cherry. But he didn’t cherry pick him. Is that what you meant?
