Add this as proof positive than Monzon who didn’t face many punchers and when he did they were often moving up in class was almost taken out by Briscoe. Would Briscoe even rate as a top 50 punching middle weight?
I don't know how great a chin he had per se, I wouldn't put him in the upper echelon for whiskers. With Monzon I think it was more a case of him just being really good at anticipating and avoiding danger. He was very rarely clipped with anything serious, and when he was he reacted fairly normally I think. Valdez put him down later, in addition to being rocked here. Nothing like a Lamotta or Hagler chin.
