Pick fighters from the top 10 at 168 at the time Griffin fought Jones and could they have beat Griffin at that time if they had fought him instead of Jones? (I think it was a catchweight bout).

Griffin actually looked good in that first Jones fight from memory. He was winning most of the early rounds.. Montell was undefeated and had also twice beaten a prime James Toney. I think he would have beaten most of the people at 168

I think Calzaghe would have toyed with Griffin a few years after the first Roy fight but yes I feel Griffin would have beaten most of the 168 lbs champs of the 90`s.

Griffin was a tricky dude and capable of beating a lot of guys. He was a monster amauter fighter back in the day and once he hooked up with Futch he became even more difficult to deal with as a pro. Excellent footwork and was great at slipping and countering.

Calzaghe would have been a bad matchup for Griffin. Joe's volume punching and hand speed would have been tough for Griffin to overcome.

    Griffin would have clowned Lacy.

You have an obsession with that fight.

    It wasn't a catchweight.

It was Roy's 2nd fight at LHW.

We never saw Joe fight a guy like that, or fight at LHW.

In fairness to Joe. There are not a lot of 5'7 SM or LH's let alone guys that fight like Griffin.

Yeah I think Griffin deteriorated quickly after Roy knocked him out in their second fight. Until then he was a talented boxer who was either beating or troubling some very good people.

    That's right.

He was unusual in stature and in style.

You can see in his fights with Roy, Toney and Tarver etc, how awkward and technical he was.

Saying that Joe would have toyed with him is based on nothing.

He was damn good no doubt. Yeah, I always get upset when folks like Mark Ant disrespect good fighters like Montell. It's one thing to have an opinion on who would win but saying he would "toy" with him is a bit much. Mark Ant is nothing more than a mouth breather that never even competed in the sport. Unfortunately this forum is made up of a lot of folks that really don't know dick about boxing.
