Fighters not only over the hill but deep in the valley (Mosley, Deloyhoya, Judah, ) fighters forced to come up for a hugh payday, but in no way that should've been at welter ( Marquez, Hatton,Baldimir,Ortiz) fighters that were damaged goods, 1 he conveniently waited until he got knocked cold before he fought him ( Pac, Berto, ) or fighters whom were not that special to begin with( Gatti, Guerrero, Coley, Chavez,Hernandez,Augustus, all no better than contenders, but greatness was as far from them as we are from Jupiter. )
Jones Jr beat 3 fighters in Toney, Hopkins, and Maccallum that were better than ANYONE Mayweather beat at the TIME he defeated them. And if you add in Hill, that would be 4. Outside of Alvarez, which fighter he fought had a decent career after they fought Mayweather Jr. ? In comparison to Hopkins and Toney who went on too greatness after they fought Jones Jr.
Mayweather Jr. Career is a carefully managed, carefully manipulated, carefully low risk, but high reward manipulation of today's mass media. A career of smoke and mirrors especially at welterweight.
Jones Jr. While I don't consider him the greatest fighter in history (far from it,but he may have been its greatest athlete) but in his prime he left no doubt about who actually won the fight. Mayweatherjr had a couple in Maidana and Castillo, that could've went either way in the 1st fight he had with them. Based on his wins over fighters like McCallum, Toney,Hopkins, Hill, than going all the way up to heavyweight to win the championship (Regardless of how bad a fighter Ruiz was, he still was a professional heavyweight fighter that managed to be somewhat successful) I'll go with Jones Jr. And it's not close especially when considering how many very capable fighters he embarrassed over his long career.

 

I'll say this - with both at their very best in their preferred division Jones is the better fighter. That's not a knock on Mayweather, Jones was out of this world for a time.

Mayweather would nevder have struggled with a fighter the level of Griffin the way Jones did in his first bout v Montell despite KOing Griffin in the rematch.

 

McCallum was 39 and way out of shape, look at his soft body at that weight, his prime was at 154 and Jones didn`t look good in the early rounds v McCallum, Cotto was better than Mike at the stage of his career when he met Floyd.
