Rhoshii probably overachieved by winning bronze. I don't think he was very highly regarded as an am. He also didn't win a pro title. He failed twice against Garcia.

 

You're right about Rhoshi. I thought he won a belt but recalled incorrectly. He was a pretty good am and was really tight with Floyd back in the mid 90's. Such a shame that some piece of **** killed him.

Yes, that was him. He was a talented fighter but his pro career never really got back on track after he got knocked out by Garcia. Definitely looked like he had CTE or some sort of brain injury.

 

Curry been bullied and beaten by Honeyghan. Weren’t exactly young or just promising but still he was never the same again and all the promise of been a potential all time great were gone.

Nobody mentioned Eddie Hopson yet. He was getting the mega-push going into his fight with Tracy Harris Patterson and then disappeared after getting kayoed and I never heard about him again until after he retired.

 

Micky Ward's famous wins over Alfonso Sanchez should be mentioned. Sanchez was previously unbeaten with a hopeful future, until the left hook to the body happened and was never the same fighter again after that.

 

I think a lot of times these cases of "a young career being derailed by one loss" are more cases where the fighter finally meets a level of competition which is beyond his skill level. In other words, rather than being devastated by a one-off loss which shouldn't have happened, the fighter was just not quite good enough when it came to facing the next level of competition.
