I'll go with Witherspoon on points but Berbick would have his moments. Thoughts?

Witherspoon but it could have been a great fight and I think Tim would have to be in top form to take it.. Trevor was tough and could brawl on the inside. Both guys beat fighters whom the other lost to.

This feels weird saying, but I can actually see Tim landing that right he landed on Holmes on Berbick and the latter folding up. I think the Tim (from Holmes to the first time he won the title) was one of the precious few who could have stopped Berbick. He didn't have Foreman power, but that right was around Tyson-level when he threw it patiently, accurately.

The problem of course was that Tim tended to throw it in a rookie way, way too wide and too excitedly, and then he tended to get WAY too animated and overconfident.

But yeah, I can see Tim stopping Berbick in 4 (as controversial as this call might end up being). He had the power, and Berbick tended to come in a lot (with his chest and chin poked out). Trevor tended to paint a bullseye on himself in big fights, and Tim would be impetuous enough to take him up on it.

It would have been a bit of a surprise to all, but that's what I see happening.

The deadly overhand right which Witherspoon nicknamed “ The can opener “ was a vicious shot indeed. Trouble is it was hit or miss ( no pun intended. ) one of my favorite knockout clips of all time came from a fight I watched live on TV over 30 years ago against Anders Ecklund remains a classic in my mind today.... Ecklund was a European Journeyman but one with a few good wins and a very large man at 6’6” 245 lbs... clip posted below...

Pretty much how I see it. Berbick was rugged, but not really in Tim's league as a technician.

Sweet Jesus...I watched this live on Tuesday Night fights! It was not until the advent of Boxrec that I learned what happened yo Haacken Brock, who scored a spectacular knockout on the undercard!

    It's possible.

Trevor was Kod in one round by Bernardo Mercado.

But, like Tim being stopped in one by Bonecrusher Smith, that seemed to be somewhat of an aberration. Both guys were, generally, very rugged and hard to stop.

Trevor wont be able to walk through Tim like he did a 220 lb (possibly weakened) Page, who had weighed 230 lbs just one month prior in beating Jimmy Young.

    Tim was strong..

As such, I see him blocking most of Berbick's offensive attack, and countering.

He could also take the initiative by outjabbing Berbick.

Tim's power was no joke. I think if he's fired up ala Holmes PLUS at least trying to tighten up the right Berbick's done.

oh of he caught you at the right time he could knock you into next year. No question . Would I predict him stopping Trevor Berbick with any real conviction ? Not sure.. Trevor was only stopped twice in some 60 fights. One was by a peaking Tyson and another was against a big hitter when he had only a dozen fights

Tim had plenty of power in that right hand but no way on mother earth was it as explosive and sleep inducing as Tysons.

Tim would kayo Trevor in 3 rounds. The right hand was tremendous, and Tim had more than enough strength to deal wit Trevor trying to maul him.

He didn't have the speed, but I disagree about the strength. He was close to that level, just as Weaver was (both in different ways).

Trevor was pretty tough, and I don't think Tim could do it. Berbick was solid and thick and hard 2 floor. I've always thought of Berbick as a bit like Norton. Only the most powerful punchers could knock him out (only happened twice, and once he was very green). Spoon was not one of the most powerful punchers imo, I would consider him a B level power puncher. I do think Spoon would win a lively brawl by an MD, and I think it's possible that he could stop Trevor, but I think saying he could do in a few rounds is rather unrealistic. I don't see Spoon stopping Berbick without being taken 2 the brink 1st.

Good points, but Berbick on his best day couldn't tie prime Norton's shoelaces imo.

That said, that might have been an interesting fight!
