What went wrong for Pac? He fought possibly the best defensive fighter of all time, and the best fighter of his generation. Being beaten by Floyd, doesn't lessen all Pacs other achievements over 7 divisions.
What went wrong was that people actually believed that Pacquiao was going to represent trouble for Mayweather when in reality Mayweather style was all wrong for Pacquiao, I gave Pacquiao no more than 2 rounds in that fight.
Spot on. They could three ten times and Pac would not win. Pac has an exciting crowd pleasing style. Mayweather has anything but. But Mayweather's defense, counter punching and ring generalship are a notch above Mannys. A different level.
What went wrong?? Pac got a boxing lesson at the hands of a master. He had no answer for PBF's ability to control range and dictate distance. PBF was the ring general and fought his fight and neutralizing Pac rather easily. Anyone who knew boxing already knew this would happen, wishful thinkers excuse makers and haters got a sobering dose of reality that night. And like I said for years if you can't beat JMM clearly in 4 fights you're not beating PBF period and that's exactly what happened. Angles workrate combos power and speed mean nothing when you're in there with a master like PBF who can take you apart and make you look average.
Except you and your coach don' know what the **** you're talking about. It was Pac who turned down PBF in 2009 not the other way around. Pac ducked a prime PBF because of testing those are facts. 2:30 of this video educate yourself before looking like a fool next time. This content is protected PBF was also the older fighter who was more faded, Pac is still fighting at a top level whereas PBF retired years ago.
The real loser that night was the sport of boxing. I went to see the fight with a lot of friends. All the bars and restaraunts were packed with people looking forward to see a great fight. In the end everyone left disappointed and kept saying how boring the fight was. A lot of casuals turned away from boxing that night. That's why PBF is being forgotten very fast, unlike somebody like Tyson.
The fight would have been better five years earlier, but the outcome almost definitely would have been the same. Mayweather is problematic for Pacquiao for the same reason Marquez is, and he's a lot bigger. A bigger man with a reach advantage and at least on a par athletically -- with elite defensive ability -- is going to be difficult for a swarmer/puncher. Pac only ever looked good as a boxer against non-boxers. ODLH showed you how to beat a prime Floyd. Having a superior jab, reach advantage and superlative footwork would force him to change the way he fights, which he dearly does not want to do. But it's much easier said than done, and only truly great fighters could do it. The best fight to make would have been Mayweather against Paul Williams. PW obviously was not a great fighter, but he would push FMJ to his limit just based on the matchup.
I don't agree with your Mayweather comments, but I do agree that the fight hurt boxing. Lots of people tuned in and turned away. I told my friends not to expect fireworks, because the real fans all knew the deal. That's why Mayweather was such a clear betting favorite.
What went wrong? why nothing ,both men raked in tens of millions of dollars ,hugged before the last round and left the ring with nary a scratch or bruise. This was a public fleecing not a fight.
Not forgotten among hardcore fans, but almost forgotten among casuals and general public. And it has been only a few years since he retired.
