Anybody who can go the distance with a young Tyson would do well in any era.

He'd have had the potential to be that era's Sonny Liston, mainly due to the lack of availability of angel dust in that era. Green's career is nothing but "what ifs?" simply because he was a guy with all the physical tools but zero mental discipline.

How many of them were top ten ranked? I said he had the potential to be a fringe contender.I never mentioned him being," a god "or any other unnecessary hyperbole .Just why you did, remains a mystery ,the answer only you are privy to !

Green was just a fighter. He had size and durability and that's about it.

He wasn't a contender in the coked up 80's and wouldn't have been in any other era. He wasn't some untapped talent who lucked out from circumstance. He just wasn't that good.

nah, look at that clip of him against Tyson, and his other fights. That guy really had some talent. if he applied himself, he could have really done well I think. Man, he seems like he'd be a lot of fun to hang out with, a million laughs

It doesn't work like this. Liston had to go the distance with Machen while Ingo KO'd him in one round. Does anyone (besides Choklab of course) think Ingo was better than Liston?

You’re right. But I guess my point was that you have lesser fighters breaching the top ten and even fighting for the crown in every era. And while it may look on the surface as though some guys from a different period may fit right in, it might not always work that way. I’ve heard some on this forum taught Tommy Morrison as a man who would have dominated in the 40s or 50s just because he merely existed in the 90s.

I've never been convinced that Ingo would have won the return he agreed to and pulled out of.
For example Joey Maxim was caught cold by Hatchet Man Sheppard and ko'd in the opening round,21 days later they met again, and Maxim won 9 of the 10 rounds to take an easy decision.

You don't entertain the possibility that Machen might have won a rematch?

Do you think Ruben Carter would always ko Emille Griffith in the opening round? That he couldn't win a dec in a rematch?
