He went in to hiding and became a recluse like Rigoblin did albeit the later resurfaced after a year. Real shame and a waste of talent as he was a damned good fighter and a likeable dude. Hopefully he hasn't disappeared for good. That being said, he's been in hiding for over three years now and he just turned 34 so time is running out for him.

He could've easily bounced back and picked up more world titles and there were lots of interesting match ups he could've been involved in. He was actually pretty slick in addition to being a power puncher with a freakishly long reach (73'')

Getting screwed financially by your promoter can make some fighters lose their desire to fight. Walters showed questionable heart though, way back when he purposely missed weight against the guy who beat him in the amateurs, Marriaga. Making the excuse he couldn't make featherweight anymore. Only to later say he could make featherweight again if he had too. He wasn't confident he could beat Marriaga, so he cheated at the scales.

Walters also repeatedly ducked Lomachenko when both of them were titleholders in the same Featherweight division. He was probably the 126 champion that Loma interested the most to unify (others are GRJ with WBC and Selby with IBF). Funny thing is, Walters was only interested to fight Loma after he lost his title due to him missing the weight in Marriaga fight. As probably he has problem on making high-profile fight in 130, Loma who was then already a 130 champion, was the only choice for him. And the rest is history.

He made the critical mistake of trashing Bob Arum publicly following the fight. Pretty sure Arum put his career on ice after that.

I’m super excited for Loma / Teo and I’d give the winner all the credit in the world. Hope we get a fight date soon!
