Not necessarily H2H, which would look pretty different.

    1900 - Jack Johnson
    1910 - Jack Johnson
    1920 - Jack Dempsey
    1930 - Joe Louis
    1940 - Joe Louis
    1950 - Rocky Marciano
    1960 - Muhammad Ali
    1970 - Muhammad Ali
    1980 - Larry Holmes
    1990 - Lennox Lewis
    2000 - Wladimir Klitschko

The first 3 decades are pretty dire imo. Massive pick up for the 30s, dip again on the 40s&50s, then steadily decent after that. 2000s was pretty poor too but without question better than the first 3 imo, maybe the 40s and 50s as well.

I suspect Jack Sharkey will be a very unpopular pick, and I surprised myself by settling on it.

Wills had a great body of work in the 10s, but had very few in the 20s.
Dempsey's run in the 20s was also pretty poor after his explosive rise at the end of the 10s.
Tunney peaked high, his body of work is very shallow, only really his wins over Dempsey, a past it Gibbons, and maybe Greb.

I think Sharkey, despite some inconsistent results, wins out with wins over Wills, Godfrey, Stribling, Loughran and deserving a win over Dempsey (in my opinion)
