I had considered both Wangek and MAB, then when I looked at the actual chronology between losses it simply wasn't that long in either case. But certainly great marches of success and key elements in a pair of great careers. :deal:

Another one that just fell short on my list was Pacquiao...with 7 years and 3 months separating Morales I from Bradley I. Darn judges. :sisi1 (but actually moot, because JMM IV was lurking around the corner anyway)

Giving the devil his due, Canelo is now at 6½ years and counting since the loss to Mayweather. Given the way he keeps pushing the boundaries to seek out challenges, he may well bite off more than he's able to chew and lose again before hanging them up...and considering that he probably has several years of prime (or close to it) form left, by that point he might well be in this conversation at roughly a dozen years...unless he steps on a garden rake long before then. :nusenuse:

He also faces the disadvantage of probably not ever having an opportunity to avenge the loss that began his streak - unlike all the nominees in my OP.

    Sergio Martinez? 9 years.
    Lennox Lewis? 7.

Duran went like 8 years undefeated between DeJesus and Leonard.

    Adonis Stevenson went 8.

Jack Johnson went 10 years. Between 1905-15.

Eusebio Pedroza - 1977-85, 25 fights unbeaten including 21 title fights. Not the most stellar opposition but beat Rocky Lockridge twice and Juan LaPorte. Had he fought and beat Salvasor Sanchez though...

Benny Leonard went 10 years undefeated. From Britton to McLarnin.

He also has the advantage of fighting who he wants, when he wants to, with whatever drugs he wants to use and with a blank scorecard that he can write in himself and hand the judges.

Didnt really want to pile on. But not only is he talented, but hes shrewd, cunning and most likely corrupt.

Wouldnt be surprising to see him keep churning out victories.

Azumah Nelson - 1982-1990, 18 fights unbeaten, including 13 straight title fight wins. Beat (an admittedly faded) Wilfredo Gomez and Mario Martinez twice. Might be a little thin...

Well, I figured they did - so it was win steak combined with resume that was the criteria? I guess Joe Louis was out of the ring for 4 years of his title reign but that wasn't by choice. Foreman in particular with his 10 year retirement probably shouldn't qualify. Leonard did fight some quality opposition prior to his retirement at least.

Following the same logic, the other great Leonard (Ray) went nearly 11 years without defeat and beat Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler during that timeframe. He was 9-0-1 between losing to Duran in Montreal and losing to Norris in his third (or fourth?) comeback in that period.

Guys, my criteria were spelled out in my OP. Guess now I know that nobody bothers reading those in detail... :xqw

(j/k ily guys. But low-key still kinda sad about it)

    Between defeats I wanna see:
    • Longevity ✓
    • Activity ✓
    • Quality ✓

All three in spades preferred. (as I think my original five and Chris's addition of Donaire all exemplify)
