Here’s Deontay fight record, take a good look at the quality of his opponents and ask yourself how many of them had any ambition to get up off the canvass? Look at Wilders opponents in his 16th to 23rd fights and compare that with Joshua’s. Wilder has fought 3 men who occupied a rank inside the top 10 at the time of the fight, FFS THREE! THREE FFS! (Can I exclaim this any more to highlight that stat) One of those was ‘paper Champion’ Bermaine Stiverne who’s ranking was manufactured! Only 12 of Wilders 43 fights have been against an opponent inside the top 100 rankings 19 are Unranked and most of the rest are outside the top 300 or even 400 ranked fighters! Please, don’t anyone try and argue that Wilder is an ATG with that dross as a resumé! It’s embarrassing!! Fight Nō - Opponent - Rank at Time of Fight 1 - Ethan Cox - Unranked 2 - Shannon Gray - Unranked 3 - Richard Green - Unranked 4 - Joseph Rabotte - 393rd 5 - Charles Brown - Unranked 6 - Kelsey Arnold - Unranked 7 - Travis Allen - Unranked 8 - Jerry Vaughn - Unranked 9 - Ty Cobb - 399th 10 - Alvaro Morales - Unranked 11 - Dustin Nichols - Unranked 12 - Shannon Caudle - Unranked 13 - Harold Sconiers - Unranked 14 - Dan Seehan - Unranked 15 - Deandrey Abron - Unranked 16 - Reggie Penna - Unranked 17 - Damon Reed - 304th 18 - D Alexander - Unranked 19 - Daniel Cota - 489th 20 - David Long - Unranked 21 - Marlon Hayes - 368th 22 - Jesse Oltmanns - 492nd 23 - Owen Beck - Unranked 24 - Kertson Manswell - 310th 25 - Damon McCreary - 357th 26 - Kevin Price - Unranked 27 - Matthew Greer - 325th 28 - Audley Harrison - 136th 29 - Siarhei Liakhovich - 43rd 30 - Nicolas Firtha - 121st 31 - Malik Scott - 86th 32 - Jason Gavern - 194th 33 - Bermaine Stiverne - 5th - WBC World Title 34 - Eric Molina - 37th 35 - Johan Duhaupas - 34th 36 - Artur Szpilka - 24th 37 - Chris Arreola - 43rd 38 - Gerald Washington - 41st 39 - Bermaine Stiverne - Unranked 40 - Luis Ortiz - 4th 41 - Tyson Fury - 4th 42 - Domonic Breazeale - 15th 43 - Luis Ortiz - 9th 44 - Tyson Fury - Scheduled
If he retired right now he could not be an all time great with that resume however he hasn't retired he did say he will fight 6 more years . If he beats fury , whyte, usyk, parker. Joshua. And remain undefeated. Until then. 6 years 2 fights a year. 12 defences plus the ten he already has. Thats 22 defences . Not saying wilder is an all time great. If he retired right now with that resume he would not be an atg at all . however he still has time left. So your word of " never" isnt accurate. Yet
I mean there's value in what you point out, his record is very thin. But it irks me when people say things like 'Look at Wilder's opponents in his 16th to 23rd fights and compare that with Joshua’s'. Two different career paths and opportunities; and you can be certain it would have taken AJ a few more fights to get a world title without Charles Martin - one of the worst ever HW champs - picking up a strap and being prepared to cash-grab and defend it in the UK. And if Wilder beats Fury and goes on to fight and beat AJ, the assessment of his overall record is rendered irrelevant. It's the big fights, and what happens in them, which counts more than an entire resume. Of the 'big three', two have fought each other - soon to be twice - and one has fought neither. In that respect, AJ's record is inferior...
The comparison with Joshua’s fights at the same time speak more to the accusations of “ducking” that get levelled at Joshua! Take a look at who they’ve been prepared to fight during their careers and ask again who’s the one avoiding dangerous opponents?
That entirely depends on who he fights and beats from here on out. His resume isn't all that now, but with the right fights and the right amount of luck, even someone like Pulev might eventually become an ATG. Not even remotely likely, but you never know 100% sure.
Well I suppose so, on that basis there’s still a chance of me marrying Margot Robbie and becoming a Billionaire
It depends on what happens from here. If he beats Fury and Joshua he will go down as an ATG. If he loses to both of them he goes down as another Ernie Shavers. The history is still being written. Sit back and enjoy gents, there are some great, competitive fights to be made at HW.
You aren't even a good liar about this. Whose ratings are you using? Your own? They aren't the RING ratings. And they aren't the WBC ratings. Luis Ortiz isn't even ranked #9 NOW by the RING. He's #5. In the WBC, Ortiz is #4. Both of those ratings are CURRENT. And Fury is #1. Wilder is rated #2 by the Ring. He's fought the #5 guy and the #1 guy in four of his last five fights. The days of regurgitating some fake stats are over. Wilder is one of the top heavyweights in the world and he's fighting the top heavyweights in the world ... he very well could be the LINEAL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION IN TWO WEEKS ... and threads like these show what a fraud you are as a poster for trying to pass them off as legit.
Yeah, agreed. Wilder has fought Fury; Fury has fought Wilder and AJ has fought neither. So yes, so far AJ has not shared a ring with his two most dangerous rivals. And having already fought - with both boxers having good reasons to not want risk a rematch - they signed to fight again. These are facts; accusations of 'ducking' are merely opinions, unless privy to contract negotiations...
So thread is basically a whine from an Anthony Joshua fan because the top two heavyweights are fighting for the Lineal Title in a couple weeks? Joshua was exposed by Andy Ruiz. He got dropped four times and he quit in their first meeting, and he ran like a scared child in the return, even though Ruiz was tipping 300 pounds and could barely get his trunks on. Joshua fought two weeks after Wilder. Now Wilder's fighting the #1 rated heavyweight in a matter of days, and Joshua is going to take six months to "prepare" to face another knockover opponent in Pulev. Joshua made his own bed. You rooted for the wrong fighter. It happens. He's a quitter. Nobody blames you. Get over it. The top two heavyweights are fighting in two weeks. It's a great style matchup. Enjoy the fight. And stop with the fake stats.
Threads about Wilders terrible resumé and no amount of deflection and exaggeration can change his record can it? The tiny part about comparative opponents from 16 to 22 was just a response to a genuine observation by another poster. Still if you want to derive some fantasy meaning from it in order to preserve your own delusions then be my guest.
