Was Canelo basically a prospect when he fought Floyd?

I never 'admitted' such a thing, actually; what are you talking about? I scored it a shutout for Mayweather.

Also what does that mean, he "did not do enough for a shutout"? All you have to do to shut out your opponent is happen to win all the rounds, whether or not some are closer than others. Do you not understand how scoring on a RBR basis works? If you do, then please tell me which specific exact round or rounds you felt to be iron-clad for Canelo and which definitely can't be scored for Mayweather.

Saying a fighter 'did not do enough for a shutout' is a vague abstraction with no meaning. Just no validity to it, unless you're getting in the weeds discussing specific rounds.

Sure, he was a few years short of reaching his peak, but then again, Mayweather were several years removed from his prime as well.

Actually, let’s focus on that for a moment. Canelo was green? Mayweather was 36 years old, fighting several weight classes north of his natural one, against a larger (and younger) opponent. And even though Mayweather pitched a shutout on Canelo, the schooled eye could still see he was slowing down with the fighting in the pocket, using less movement, relying on the ropes etc.

The story of this fight should NOT be how green Canelo was, it should be about a (slightly) fading champion who completely schooled his successor.

I don't know haven't seen the fight in a while but I quite honestly remember when watching live giving Canelo maybe 4 rounds in the fight not necessarily for doing anything special but good bodywork and inactivity by Floyd. Just my thoughts Mayweather looked sensational during that fight might have been his most landed punches in a fight but I think the reason he looked so good was needing to step it up vs Comp.. I dont buy the green comment yeah he was young but had gotten his feet wet on the world level and showed his mettle with the Trout situation. Canelo has shown himself to be a quality boxer and while I agree I'd likely still pick Floyd I think it might be a more even matchup under the circumstances you listed.. i feel like one thing you can say is every fight out Canelo consistantly adds more to his game dont know if he's peaked yet but that quality of adding and getting better is partly why I'm a fan.

I remember after the fight making a thread about how I thought Canelo did well didn't become a fan of his until a year later when he beat Lara

 

I couldn't agree more he's one of the worst posters here and knows nothing about boxing. Calling a unified champ of a division who was also ranked in the top 10 p4p a prospect is almost ban worthy.

Giving him four rounds because Floyd did relatively less in those few than in the more dominant eight isn't right. Canelo's body work throughout was paltry, and it never overshadowed the quality of Floyd's jabs & counters, even in the frames where his output was minimal.

 

Golovkin got robbed against Canelo twice.

Lol that's not exactly what I meant I mean as in the rounds i did give to Carlo I felt Floyd's inactivity and the bodywork from Canelo were some of the things I looked at not the only thing. I've kinda always felt that bodywork was an under looked at part of Canelos game he actually did some pretty good work in this fight in that department not enough to win hell no then again I haven't seen the fight too many times since watching it live
