Booth just seems to be up his own arse, good trainer no doubt but he’s so self loving it must put some fighters off. Joyce needs a gritty bullying performance to beat Dubois and just needs to constantly put it on him and not think too much. He needs an old school motivational trainer nothing flash. Can he stop that straight left right piston shot, that’s the question. If he lasts past 6 rounds then I can see him wearing Dubois down but he needs to be on top all fight.
Not good changing trainer again at thiss stage. A trainer deserves to be on a % not a fixed rate. Stylewise/asset wise i think Joe G would be good trainer for Joyce.
Agreed, always difficult to know how much to attribute to the trainer. I guess Booth should get credit for Haye because he was probably a lot more of a raw talent than say Andre Ward who was disciplined from the start
Not at all playing devil's advocate, and I agree Ward was disciplined from the start, but while Haye may have been raw, he too was always a discilpined talent and enigma from the start. The Carl Thompson fight can be disregarded due to the achievements after. If anything, Haye should get credit for Booth to an extent. Despite that, Haye and Groves' defensive qualities under Booth rank amongst the best I've seen in the modern age, especially from these isles.
I forget what fight it was not long ago, his fighter comeback to the corner after having a rough round and all he did for the full minute, was stare at him, not moody, like looking for sign's on where he was at..It mustve been the longest minute of that Boxers life, eerie as **** imo, make a bit of a verbal communication at least, not look at him like you want to pull his shorts off and blow him ffs...Just odd communication or lack of !
Few people were saying he gets easily distracted in the UK and needs to be away to knuckledown. Its interesting and only the fight will tell whether training in the US for a UK fight will be a hindrannce or a positive step.
I thought Joyce had a bit more about him under Salas than he did with Booth and Abel Sanchez. Booth is a very good coach but that seemed a strange fit with Joyce from day one to me. Joyce and Salas only parted company during his split from Hayemaker so it wasn’t anything personal at the time. This is only good for Joyce in my eyes.
